My little daughter watches several chapters frequently. Sometime ago my wife observed that the music was quite original and different for every chapter.
It goes from country music, to tango, pop, etc.
Right now my favourite chapter is "The Yeti" where you can hear funky stuff constantly.
It surprised me that a cartoon could have interesting background music (at least from an adult point of view )

Best kids show on TV.

I was watching Backyardigans with the kiddos this morning, and they had a cool Bert Kaempfert/Herb Alpert thing going on. http://www.nickjr.com/kids-videos/ba...retriever.html What great music for a kids show!

I actually googled the show, and Wikipedia shows the music and styles used as well as an episode synopsis. They actually use music based on past hits and redo the words, as well as use a different style for each episode.
We have "on demand" and sometimes the girls will watch the same episode over and over. I don't mind too much with Backyardigans, because they are good stories full of imagination, as opposed to, oh say, In The Night Garden.
We also like Wonderpets.
Right now, they're watching Doc McSuffin's on Disney Jr.

I gotta say, I'm not a big fan of the Nick Jr. format change --no more Moose & Zee, and I haven't seen Jack's Big Music Show in a while either...I mean THEY haven't seen it in a while.

Oh, trust me, they've been through several format changes then since I was a kid. I remember the early 90s...I remember when FACE was the host and Filomena Fly

One of the co-creators is the lead singer of the Aquabats, so they have some very cool musical guests and regular contributers, including Mark Mothersbaugh and Devo, Jack Black, The Killers, The Faint, Roots, Biz Markie, My Chemical Romance, and Weezer.
Other than the typical "life lesson" fare offered by most kids shows like manners, sharing, helping others, etc. they promote listening, dancing to, and playing music in a major way.
My daughter Maisie's favorite character is Toodee, because she plays bass... |
