I Had a Jam Session With Ten Year Olds

I've taught some lessons in the past, but I've never really jammed with kids before. I went over to my friends house to play some music and his son had some friends over too. Turns out, one of his friends was this stellar cello player! He is classically trained and showed me his progress on his Bach suites. I was very, very impressed.

Someone had a flip cam in the room so they recorded the whole thing and I tossed it up on my site. I thought some TBers might be interested in seeing what an all-ages jam session looks and sounds like. Definitely a big departure from the beer soaked practice spaces at the Sound Museum in Boston!

Here are the vids

The coolest thing was, I introduced him to The Blues It will be interesting to see what he does with THAT.

Cool Jams. You've intoduced the kids to a little diversity in music. Their instructor at school will surely be surprised when they start playing what they have learned.

awesome. i love seeing children involved in music. i recently went over to a friend's house and his 7 year old is interested in playing bass. so brought mine over and we had a blast.

showing how to hear and feel the beat

after showing him a little....then he gets to try (my strap wasn't short enough)

but the strap for their guitar hero worked perfect.

As I've had my share of experience at the Sound Museum, I'll say very different and awesome.

Yeah it has a lot of character...my band had a space there for a while but left after we built our own room in our basement. I went back about a year later and I was really surprised by how much I missed it.
