I HATE FedEx!!!!!!

Every time I have a bass delivered through FedEx, they manage to mess it up. I took a day off from work today waiting for this bass, and they "put it on the wrong route." Now they say they will deliver tomorrow, but, guess what? I'll be at WORK!

end rant.

Man that does suck... and so does FedEx trying to bill you $918 dollars for a shipment of God knows what from China despite having never used FedEx in your life.

That REALLY sucks.

I never really had any problems with them untill recently. We got hit with loads of snow and after seeing "out for delivery" in the morning then "weather delay" 3 days in a row I decide to pick the damn thing up myself. I call at 6am to tell them to leave it there and I will be picking it up. After a 30 minute drive in the snow i get there to be told "uhh yeah...it's on the truck. sorry". I did get it that, though.

Well.........

I hate UPS and love FedEx. I've been using FedEx since 1999 and so far I've only had 1 problem (they trashed a eden Metro combo) but the paid in full within 2 weeks. UPS?? don't get me started! Last year I waited over 2 weeks for a bass, I'm literally the last guy on their route and they come @ around 7:00 PM. This one time I bought a MM Jazz Bass and somehow they managed to put a couple of dings on it (it was brand new from SamAsh and came in a hardcase)
Someone here (I forgot his name) used to work for UPS and he once said "I wouldn't ship a brick via UPS"

I hate shipping all together. All the benefits of buying and ordering offline is usually darkened by shipping in some way. If its not the charges, transit times, companies taking their sweet time shipping, people forgetting to ship, shipping delays, Weekend shipments, DOA, and the occasional shipment that ends up in a space and time continuum somewhere in the 8th dimension, Shipping will usually find some way to give me a headache.

Please discredit 45% percent of what I say due to current personal shipping problems

It almost makes me wonder if it depends on where you live.
Out of many many shipments, UPS only damaged something once, USPS has never been a prob.
warning...rant ahead---
Fedex? I HATE them. They are a disaster here.
I literally have never had a shipment come to me without some sort of problem big or small. From leaving notes that I wasn't home to sign for something when I was (this has happened 3x now, the driver doesn't even ring the doorbell or knock. (I WORK FROM HOME, I"M ALWAYS FRIGGEN HOME). Then having to wait 2 or even 3 days for them to bring it back. UPS and USPS is usually the next business day. To losing items in transit only to happily let me know that I can come and pick it up at their location. (I paid extra for express shipping, damn if I'm driving 30 mins to pick it up), to heaving items from a distance onto my front porch. You would figure that a driver might be aware that I can see his footprints in the snow stop about 20' from my front door, right?
They utterly and completely suck, at least around here. My thoughts are that it HAS to be a localized thing because if they did this everywhere they seriously be out of business right now.

Some shippers prefer Fedex, so I just let it go if it's an item coming to me. But as far as who I use, it's almost exclusively the USPS

I really think it's just the luck of the draw with any of these companies. I'm not all that far from you, Relic, and I've never, ever had even a minor problem with FedEx (shipping or receiving). When I ship I go directly to the main FedEx distribution joint in Edison and it's always smooth and easy.

I guess in the past 3+ years I must have shipped/received well over 30 basses using FedEx in some form or another. I've had great success with them, but UPS has always been a hassle when someone uses it to ship something to me. And I really don't like USPS, but that's mostly because the local PO is a complete drag and they always screw up the deliveries to my house .....

I've also never paid more than $30 to ship a bass (insured), always find it interesting that people talk about much larger coin for shipping. Maybe it's because I go directly to the distribution center?

Hey Pointbass!

It's weird for sure. I'm thinking that it's a one-two punch for me. #1 the driver that usually covers my route/area is no ball of fire, #2, maybe the distribution center for my location (it's in Cranbury) isn't too well-organized?
I dunno. That's all I can think of... you're certainly not the only fellow NJ'er to tell me that Fedex is fine for them. I just can't explain it really. But so help me god, the last 5 shipments that have come to me via Fedex ALL had some sort of problem.
I have two items on their way to me this week via fedex, we'll see what happens.

FedEx seriously damaged an acoustic bass guitar that I shipped to a buyer in Michigan last December. The ABG was in a very sturdy hard shell case and was packed very securely. On arrival, the top was buckled. The only explanation is that the box was tossed and landed with a significant impact. FedEx refused to pay for what was obviously handling abuse.

I dealt with the guys in the Cranbury center, and they're not rocket scientists. That being said, I've had much better luck with UPS, than fed-ex. Don't know why, but fed-ex deliveries to my house always have an issue.

There's good and bad with FedEx, UPS and USPS.

It just comes down to personal luck and alignment of the planets. Use one or the other exclusively enough and you'll end up with some problem eventually.

A few years ago, FEDEX delivered a bass I had purchased off ebay to the WRONG apartment complex. I called and called and they insisted and insisted it was delivered. Fine, I took a walk up and down my street (which was lined with apartment complexes) and, sure enough, I found it sitting in the manager's office, three complexes down from mine. Of course, my apartment number didn't even exist at that complex and no one there had the same name, but it was signed for anyway. Both FEDEX and apartment managers can be real idiots.

I'm with you on the hating fed ex. Right before Xmas I ordered an IPOD. I only got a notice on my door after they had already made a previous attempt, waited home the entire next day, they never showed up, next day I got some bull story about my street being closed (it wasn't) and eventually had to drive quite a ways from my place to pick the package up. I NEVER had any problems with UPS.

I'll add a PS. This wasn't my only incident with Fedex. Something similar has happened just about every time I had a delivery from them.

Thing that I don't like about FedEx is that they insist on making three attempts before you can do a customer pickup at the facility. I know my UPS guy and I just call the facility after one unsuccessful attempt and pick it up before 8pm.

You don't want an expensive instrument banging around in a truck in the middle of winter for three days!

Man, you guys are giving me a scare. I've always received my basses via UPS and have had no problems. However, now one soon to be on the way will be coming FedEx. I hope my new baby arrives safely and unmolested.

Go drive and pick it up from the dealer yourself. Otherwise "WHINE WHINE".

For some complaining of 'dings' (one even stated it was in a hard case) perhaps you might, just might, consider it being the manufacturer's fault?

Also, the USPS is the greatest. Unfairly dogged, IMO.

Yeah ok there my friend, I'm going to take off from work to drive 30 mins one way to pick up something that I paid to have shipped to my door.

At any rate, I'm happy to say that fedex delivered a bass to me today, unscathed and on time. I also noticed that it was a different driver. Coincidence? Maybe my fortunes have changed
