| I found, initially, that the print version of the magazine, which came with a DVD and a CD, was a stellar publication with a very wide scope of artist and intent.
Then they nixed the DVD offering, migrating the content to online...and it was still engaging content, just not as nice and concise.
I don't have a problem with the artist-scope they cover now, it's not that different than before, maybe a bit narrower, but it is certainly not wimpy stuff. And certainly not a rubbish publication like Rolling Stone or hell, even Alternative Press have devolved to. Just because you don't like the genre doesn't make them wimpy, but they do give off a bit of air of "hey we're more informed than you" with some of the bands...but hey, i applaud them for being excited about many non mainstream acts. How else would I know about them? So YAY for Paste.
I still enjoy their new release review format, their coverage of underground / art film content is first rate, and the writing is certainly rides the line of passionate fan and proper journalism. AND, I get weelky online updates and links to free music, so how is that bad?
In an age when even Wired magazine is hinting ever more at shades of FHM & Maxim in their content to compete for shelf space, I welcome Paste for staying relatively true to their initial vision.
