I have band tomorrow and my wrist is giving me hell.......what to do?

Short term solutions at least.

My left wrist is giving me massive issues. It's swollen, stiff and hurts when I do anything.

Only issue is that I have band tomorrow and I'm meant to be doing some keys practice as well as bassplaying.

Any suggestions as to what I can do? I can't get to a doctors in time and I'm having work done to my wrists beginning next week if anyone says anything.

Any help?!

Rip the bass lines and mime playing them.

Get yourself a wrist brace and tell your tutor that you will do your best.

RICE method.

Rest ... that mean's DON'T play. Your body in pain is telling you something's wrong, so stop doing it.
Ice ... put ice on it.
Compression ... brace, wristband, etc. Throw an ace bandage on your wrist for extra support.
E ... elevation. Keep it above your heart if you're just laying around.

But long story short, if playing hurts, don't play. Take a few days off. Two weeks will do your wrists wonders (believe me, chronic carpal tunnel syndrome sufferer here)

And read The Bassist's Guide to Injury Management, Prevention and Better Health. Available here: http://www.drkertz.com/

Thanks for the link!

I've done most of this before...but my problem seems to be getting worse.

You seem to have a ton of problems with your playing... What kind of bass are you using, and what is your setup like?

It sounds pretty bad - Unless your band is playing a chance of a lifetime gig then cancel.

No rehersals, and very few gigs are worth long term injury. You've got to choose between playing tomorrow, and maybe being unable to play for a year afterwards, or passing for one day, and being back next week.

Cut it off and engineer a new bionic hand that is better than the original. Then rule the band with your new-found iron fist.

Either that or do a Bill Clements/Rick Allen and play one-handed.

While preparing for a state championship 3 years ago I blew 3 tendons in my knee and was told by the doctor to take 3 months off all wrestling and training, effective immediately. And cancel the competition I had trained for 3 months for.

2 weeks later after just resting it, I was back on the mats. The knee never stopped giving me problems but a combination of the RICE method, Voltaren Emugel and Tigers Balm soothed it enough to roll the next day (thats my hint to you). I also took Glucosomine to help tolerate bone lock/bar submissions but I doubt your problem is bone related.

I didn't win my fights in the comp, but I did reach my personal goal of not losing by submission and one fight was against a guy who held off grading to the next level so he could compete at our level (2nd stripe white vs "4th stripe" white or timewise, under 1 years training versus 2+).

Oh yeah, today I can walk and run pain free, but my knee still hasn't come good for rolling on the mats and I can't roll properly as a result (thats my advice to you).

Cheers,

Basically, it all comes down to rest. Take two weeks off, minimum. Playing now isn't worth the long term effects. If it hurts, don't do it.

The rest will do no good if you don't give it time to heal.
