I have given new meaning to hammer ons

I just for the heck of it I picked up one of my drummers drumsticks and began hammering the E string on my bass while playing a run that we were trying to work into a song. It sounded really cool and now what I played has become an intro to a song we were writing but could not come up with an adequate intro. Has anyone ever hit their strings with a drumstick or other item or have I just invented a new way to play bass?

I've tried to incorparate the ring on my finger like a slide, but it's not going to happen, It would be easier with a slide instead of a dinky ring. Not to mention I'd probably never slide on bass anyway.

Tony Levin's been doing that for years. Unfortunately, Funk Fingers are out of production for quite some time.

I've used empty/almost empty beer bottles as slides....works better on guitars, though

The Ventures did it on the "Live In Japan" album in the early 60's, though the drummer had the sticks and the bass player fretted the notes.
