So I found this cable around the house.

On one side it's got a 1/4 jack that you'd plug into a bass or amp or whatever. Then it branches into two other ones that are the same as the red and white (don't know what their called) that go into TVs, only their not red and white...

What is this used for?

Oh and my uncle used to be in a bunch of bands so that's probably where it came from.

by "red and white" I guess you mean a composite audio cable. You could use that to plug into a P.A. or, as you said a TV. It couldn't hurt to have it, but it doesn't seem like it would be extremely useful to you.

Is it a TS or TRS 1/4 end? TS has a single ring. TRS has two rings on it. TRS is called a balance cable that is used for stereo, the TS is unbalanced which is mono. They are used for PA, and some amps.

I think it's one ring. But I'll check when I get back.

Edit: it's got two rings, one at the top, and a thinner one towards the middle.

Yup, that is an Insert cable 1/4in TRS T-Tip-Send R-Ring-Return. S is Signal. It is designed to connect to a channel insert on a mixing console to an effects processor with phono jacks.

Sounds like a TRS 1/4" stereo plug that goes to a pair of RCA plugs. Probably used to patch a headphone output (all headphones used to be 1/4" before the Sony Walkman) to separate RCA inputs like on a tape deck.

Just to fix an error. I wrote that S means signal, when in fact it means Sleeve

Just saying xD
