Clint Gamboa went to high school with me.
We were in the same performing arts/choir program. Did a bunch of musicals, songs, mini concerts, and the like. I always felt a small rivalry with him; but truth be told, he was always the better singer.
After high school, I went on and got marrired, pursued work, etc. and put my music on the back burner.
Clint never stopped; at this point, he's been working as a karaoke MC at a bar around the corner from my house. Free time, of course, was spent on singing with different bands, and recording songs. I've always tipped my hat to him, for having the wherewithall to be broke for a while for his music.
Yesterday, my brother called to tell me he was on TV. He sounded great, and seems to be garnering a good response. Whether or not he wins, he'll get some kind of publicity and will likely be able to pursue his singing full time.
Really wierd to see this fool on TV. I called him yesterday to congratulate him, but a small part of me is saying "Screw you, Clint "
So umm...discuss?

This guy was higher than a kite, on meth it seemed, and he's going on and on telling me about how he is using drugs to get out of his American Idol contract. He had auditioned, badly, but they showed him on TV, so I guess he was contracted in some way.
You can look up his audition on youtube. I remember he did an Ozzy song, forget which one though, possibly Crazy Train? Eric Mueller from West Covina.

yo Tony, similar story here! a friend called me last night also. the girl, Emily Anne Reed, who barely made the cut used to be my house-mate. i gave her bass lessons and helped her acquire housing in SF.
i haven't seen her in a while and it tickled me. i'm not sure her "throw-back" vocals will get her to the next round but what a boost! i may congratulate her via the webz. (infact, i'll do that right now)

From page you linked to-
Some spoiler sites are reporting that Clint contributed songs to a 2003 film flop called The Room, a movie so famously bad that some theaters have held late-night screenings so audiences can mock it. If true, that's a bit of backstory that's sure to endear him to the Vote for the Worst crowd.
| If true, very very awesome! I love that movie! Hahahaha!

But who I really enjoyed was that guy from Texas who plays a double bass. That dude is talented. Anyone know him?

I doubt he will win, because he is talented in ways a lot of people won't understand - but the exposure he gets on Idol will surely propel his career. I would jump at any chance to work with him.
As for Clint Gamboa - he's better than I thought he would be. Very capable, although I don't think he is charismatic enough to go the distance. Great voice.
Another thing that's better than I thought it would be is that show this season. I've got to say that the new judge lineup is working out very smoothly, and the chemistry is the best they have had in years. Jennifer Lopez moved into that role as if she had been doing it forever and obviously gives up no credibility to anyone else who's sat in the chair. Steven Tyler is a bit of a sideshow, but not as much as I thought he would be and his contributions are lucid. I am surprised overall. |

I haven't watched Idol in years, and only did so to see how my boy would do. But I've been pleasantly surprised by the show overall

A year later I started seeing this guy pop up in a few movies. The biggest of which was the Robert Townsend movie "The Five Heartbeats". He was one of the Five heartbeats! He was was a decent horn player and singer but I never knew he wanted to act. I also lived around the corner from a kid (3-4 years younger than me) who had a recurring role on the "Cosby Show". Damn, I should have gone into acting!

He played Choir Boy. His name is Tico Wells Unfortunately thats not him (or any of them) singing. The vocals were done by a old R&B group from the 70's called "The Dells".
