...and I've just found (and got) it:
When I was a teenager, I was an avid visitor of most record stores in my town. Most of my current vinyl collection was bought back then. Back in 1982, I clearly remember having seen this LP and feeling very attracted by that picture of a live rock band. I think there was no single visit to a record store in which I didn't hold that album in my hands for more than a few seconds. What I can't remember is why if it was that interesting to me, I didn't buy it. Actually, I don't even remember having listened it at the record store. I guess I didn't because I didn't know anything about Rush at the time since radio stations never played them (and that was the only way to get informed about rock/pop music at the time).
Years later, after getting to know Rush and becoming a huge fan, I kept cursing myself because of my mistake. "Why the hell I didn't buy it?". Although there's nothing special about the music inside, it's a rare item anyway. Here's some info about the album: Quote:
Rush Through Time, a compilation album released by Mercury Records in Holland, Mexico, and perhaps elsewhere, shortly after the release of Moving Pictures. The cover image previously appeared in the Hemispheres Tourbook, as well as the front cover of The Words And The Pictures, Vol. I.
"Released by the German company entirely without our knowledge or consent (not that they need it), and certainly contains nothing of any interest - not even the cover, and certainly not that title. We wouldn't do that. Have you noticed that everyone puns with our name except us?" - Neil Peart, "Backstage Club newsletter", 1988
| I agree: There are no rarities inside, so again, there's nothing special about the album. But anyway now I can stop cursing myself and enjoy that sensation of fixing an old mistake, not to mention the fact of owning a rare item in Rush discography (which I already own -legally purchased- in its entirety).
Just wanted to share this story with all of you. Thanks for reading! |

I thought the comment about never punning about their name was funny, though. They eventually did release "Rush R30" to commemorate 30 years together.

Squinting at a 6x6 "album cover" jammed with flyspeck writing just isn't the same. Of course I also really love the smell of a brand-new record, all that freshly inked cardboard.
I was introduced to Rush in 1985. So I only had the experience of bringing home the latest Rush album in L.P. format twice before everything went to CD. But I did pick up their entire discography in fits and starts, and I loved bringing my latest acquisition home, reading through the titles and lyrics as I listened to the songs (many of them for the first time!). For sound reproduction and longevity, I still prefer a CD. I just wish the packaging was a little bit more interesting to look at!
Good find. You're right it is nothing unusual inside, but the packaging is an interesting rarity. |

Interesting that there are pictures of the Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures on the back cover but I don't think (working from memory) any of the tracks on that album come from either. It's all older material if memory serves me correctly.
