But it never went anywhere. It's certainly not making as much headlines as it did with Korn and other big bands that came about in the 90's/early 200s though. Much of the rap and hip hop influence gave way to more traditional guitar work and good riffage when the metalcore sub-genre started getting big, and the Swedes and other Scandinavian folk really brought the guitar work up, like In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, who showed up in the early/mid 90s, you know, the Gothenburg sound. Nowadays the breakdowns and ridiculously low tuning are getting popular thanks to Meshuggah, but the heavy stuff never went anywhere. |

| | | | I love good heavy music. I was a metal head in high school. That was a long time ago. Nowadays the metal category is ridiculous. It's embarrassing. I've abandoned the term "heavy metal". It's like Halloween everyday for those guys. There's a lot of heavy music I like, but most of it is pretty stupid now. I like the REAL/true heavy music. I like TOOL who I don't consider metal and like CORONER who I consider old school metal. But I hate the term "metal". It has been ruined. Now there's heavy music that's good and there's a ton of heavy music that really sucks. Modern music is suffering. Probably from the technology these days. |

My favourite band - of any genre - by a country mile.
Live or on record, that's one of nastiest, gnarly-ass bass tones you'll hear. Dick Lovgren is a monster of a player. Him and Haake are the most awesome rhythm section out there. The musicality of these guys is unreal.
Metal has never 'gone away' for it to suddenly 're-appear'. It's always been there, in one form or another, if you know where to look. |

| | | | I have to say Meshugga is thee heaviest band I ever heard. It's unbelievable how there's always someone heavier. How can it get heavier than that? But it will.
BTW I've seen Coroner a few times back in the day. At small clubs. They had an unbelievable very clear sound. You could hear everything perfect. Very impressive. |

Yeah, whilst I had all the albums and played them to death, sadly they never came to England back in the late 80's/early 90's. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.
Meshuggah are on a different planet. |
