I may audition for a Janis Joplin tribute band

Saw a local ad looking for a bassist for a "blues rock" band. I call them, and offer my services on a temporary basis (until they find someone permanent.) It turns out most of their stuff is Janis Joplin covers (girl singer.) Sounds like it may be fun in the short term, but nothing I would want to do over and over again.

I can't help but notice this thread is kinda sinking here in OT.

I think it'll fare better in Miscellaneous...

You will need an Eb3 to cover the bass tone. For the
Big Brother and the Holding company songs ...
well, no you won't, but 1 and 3 half notes was not the
style back then. Seems busy compared to today's stuff.

Reference the scene in Monterey Pop with her doing
'Piece of My Heart'. The bass player cranks, if you ignore
the fact the film is totally out of synch with the music.

Seems a narrow niche, though. You should be able to expand
it with additional blues and late 60's rock selections.
Throw in a Country Joe or two ( Sweet Lorraine, Fixin' to Die Rag) a little classic Dead ( Playin in the Band, Friend of the Devil) and a Johnny Winter selection ( Good Mornin Little Schoolgirl, It's my own fault ) and you should be able to crack it open. This have anything to do with the singer's preferences?

Better playing than not, imho.

Joplin's Kosmic Blues Band...that material would be cool to cover.
Something similar would be Lydia Pensa & Cold Blood.

I agree with Thor...Rock bass playing in that day could be very active, re-active, proactive, & "jamming".
