I need gear guidance...

I have Mustang bass that is worth about $500 trade in...

I love the tone of the bass, but I want a new head. At my local musicgoround they have two things that just might fix this problem...

They have a Danelectro dolphin bass for 130... from what I hear that when strung with flatwounds these things get that fat round tone like my Mustang does.

They have an Ampeg SVT350 for 350...I hear that some people like it, and some people thinks it's garbage. It s says its a solid state amp that sounds likes it tube

So together I should be able to get both, is it worth it? I need opinions people

the 350 is garbage. it doesnt sound like a tube head at all dont get it your mustang is better.

I played an SVT 350 for a few years. As far as solid state heads go, it is pretty mediocre, and it certainly does not sound like a tube head. My Trace Elliot was much better, as far as heads go (I had a pre-Gibson head with the 12 band EQ, with the black light and IIRC 400 watts).

For $500.00 or there abouts, you can get a GK. I would look into that. However, if you like the Mustang tone, I would just keep it. It is a better bass than the Dano.

EDIT: looking at your profile, it seems you have a ton of misc gear. Do you use all of it?

EDIT #2: looking at your preferences, the GK and Trace may not be your thing. You need an Acoustic rig or a Sunn head to go with that cab. Alternatively, the new Monoliths may be a newer option with the flavor you like for you to explore. .
