I need a guitar pedal

So a search didn't bring up anything relevant, but I need help finding a guitar pedal. My buddy's girlfriend asked me to help pick out a guitar pedal for him.

He currently uses a Marshall head and has a 5 button switch that he uses for clean/distortion, and he likes the tone he gets out of the amp a lot. But, that's the only effect he currently uses. He's a full time student so he doesn't have a lot of bank to buy this kind of stuff normally, which is probably the reason he hasn't yet.

In terms of music, we're a post-grunge band. We emulate bands like Chevelle, Bush, Breaking Benjamin, and Three Days Grace. He's also a really big Coheed and Cambria fan.

One thing he doesn't have is a tuner. He was buying one once but it never went through and he never bought it. I think a tuner is probably a good idea, but I was kind of hoping for something more "fun" you know? I play guitar a bit myself too, but I only have a Sansamp GT-2.

I'm not sure of the budget yet (waiting on a response).

I'm not familiar with "post-grunge", but a chorus pedal would probably be useful for adding a little depth.

Something like this mabey...
