I thought last week was gonna be my last week at work because they was laying off 13 people and my department is not that big. I jumped the gun and sold my mim fender stratocaster because I didn't know how long it was gonna take for me to get a new job or collect unemployment.

To make a long story short, I survived the lay off, and now I'm guitar-less. So I decided to by the $99 SX guitar starter pack. Is this a good deal? I'm scared to blow $300 on a squire fat strat pack because anything can happy. Here is the specs.

Is it a good deal? All I want is a good tone and something decent to hone my skills. I'm not going on a world tour anytime soon.

I have this SX guitar and it plays and sounds pretty darn good for the price. I think you'd do fine with the starter pack. Make sure to give it a good setup when you get it in and you might need to dress the frets some.

I have an SX guitar... stratocaster copy.

I bought it second hand, for about $100 (AUS), and it's pretty good. With a proper setup, it would do quite well. I have no idea what the neck and body woods are, but they feel pretty darn solid.
The pickups aren't that bad either.

For what it's worth, it's far better than my friends cheapo Ashton guitar. Luckily for him, he's getting an Iceman soon.

Look for a cheap Ibanez - their low end guitars are really very good.

I like the basic Yamaha Stratoids. I think the relevant model is the Pacifica 012, or something like that.

That SX pack will definitely satisfy your jones for a guitar. It's adequate.

But it ain't no MIM Fender, not by a long shot.

I don't know anything about the SX guitars, but I prefer the Squier Standard Limited Edition Strats over the Fender Standard (MIM) Strats.

IMO, the Squiers feel better, have better pickups, and they're half the price of the Fender Standards.

I already own a Vintage White Squier Ltd. Ed. Strat, and I'm about to buy a Cherry Sunburst...

how did I miss this thread?

SX guitars are great for the money, but just make sure you get some new wiring if you want this to last you a while. It's prett flimsy
