I`m digging the new Godsmack album right now. I had grown weary of them over the last few years, but this new album rocks !

Recent album purchases I've loved:

Torche - In Return
Sweet - Off the Record
The Nerve Agents - Days of the White Owl

YMMV

Nothing new here but I've been listening to them quite a bit lately.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E by Incubus - IMO one of the best albums ever
Opiate by Tool - great raw Tool

+1...never really cared for their later stuff, but I loved this one.

I've been listening to Fortress by Protest the Hero lately.

any TOOL.
and besides that some good Death Metal:
The Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal (favorite band right now)
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake especially is a good album
Cannibal Corpse - any of their stuff.
Marilyn Manson - Portrait of an American Family, Antichrist Superstar (his only good albums IMO. Portrait is a masterpeice. Oh and this is definitely not death metal)

Uh... What?
Black Dahlia... Emo Deathcore bollocks
Lamb of God... Thrash Metal/Groove Metal

You're lucky you saved yourself with Marilyn Manson by mentioning you knew he wasn't Death Metal... But still... 2 is bad enough.

Does organising your music into specific subgenres really matter that much to you?

- Haggard, specially the "Eppur si muove" and "Tales of Ithiria" albums.
- Therion, check "The Secret of teh Runes" CD out. Amazing.

Changing styles:
- The Baseballs. They only have one album, "Strike", but is great. They'r ea cover band, but 'backwards'. They take current chart hits and turn them into a 50's rock songs.

When it's that far wrong... Yes. I would have accepted Death Metal to be any subgenre of Death Metal, but not as any subgenre of any music you so please. How about you listen to some Children of Bodom? I've heard they're a brilliant Classical orchestra!
