I'd like to know if the Fender molded bass case (http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN0996171506) can be use like a flight case or if I must buy an aluminium one?

Somebody ever use that kind of case (fender) for flight?

Sorry if I miss a thread about this subject.

Thanks a lot!

That case, while looking fairly stout, is NOT an ATA case.

I personally would not baggage compartment a non-ATA case but then, if I'm flying an instrument, I'm flying a $4k instrument.

I'm far more likely to either take the neck off, pack it down and take it as carry on or carry set up tools and rent a Fender at the other end of the flight.

Thanks a lot Steve! I really appreciate!

Is that kind of case is suitable for flight?

Where I go, I don't think there's a music store (Turks and Caicos).

Word of advice to add to Steve's: Definitely make sure it says "ATA" before bag-checking it. Ignore whatever the ticket counter tells you. I was forced to bag-check my TKL because they refused to believe that wasn't ATA. Ended up with a cracked case despite the "Fragile" stickers.

Thanks a lot MiJaKo!

According to what you say, I'm really glad to don't have bought the Guardian flight case! It's a flight case, but it isn't ATA! So without your answer I'll have lost 200$

If this one seems ok?

Do I have to find a case who is TSA approved? The Fender one as the mention «TSA 002». Can a case be TSA without being a flight case?

I think I'm gonna carry just a neck and a body that I will cut to fit in a bag. I just want to practice while vacation and won't appears on stage!

You can find the specifications for true Air Transport Approved here:

http://www.starcase.com/starfactsformataspec.html

Ball Corners (so the forklift can get underneath it)

All Recessed hardware (So nothing catches on the conveyor)

Recessed and spring loaded handle

Piano hinge

Tongue and groove edge reinforcements

Wow! thanks a lot again Steve!

Yesterday, I communicate with airline cie and the guys said to me that ATA is just a «fraud»... But according to the specifications you give us via the links, I don't think the employee know something about ATA.

Thanks again!
