I present to you: THE VOODOO CHILD (SLIGHT RETURN) CHALLENGE!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to have some fun! As you know, Voodoo child (slight return) was recorded with no bass player (sarcasm) and I ALWAYS find myself making up my own bass lines to that song when I play it when practicing!

That gave me a good idea! I want the first ten bassists on this site to record their own bass line over the studio version of the song! Us hear on talkbass will vote on it! The winner will get a FREE PACK OF STRINGS mailed to them.

I have no idea why I'm doing this, I guess you guys caught me while I'm in a silly/happy mood! I'm not sure if you guys would be willing to participate or not, but it's worth a shot!

So lets start it! Let the first ten bassist post in this thread starting.....NOW!!!!

I so would but I am on vacation with no basses and even if I were home, I'd have no way of recording.

Drats.

FIRST ENTRY!

Well, I took 10 minutes out of my time to do this! Came out pretty good I think, although there are a few mistakes.

Voodoo Chile (Now with bass!)

Dude it was a late/rough night, I spent all evening with my 2.5 year old. But here is a start until I get my full file mixed.

2000 MIM Jazz with Basslines (Hot and Vintage) through a Line 6 TonePort. I have never played this song before and just kinda recorded as I went.

There's a version on our website.

http://www.treasurejunkieband.com

It automatically starts playing when you go to the site. You can also download the MP3 for free - just scroll down to the bottom of the page and follow the directions there. Not the original recording (live cover by my band), but you're welcome to enjoy it just the same

Yeah, but covers are boring to me.

This at least made it interesting just painting over the song.

If there`s no bass in the studio version, I must be going crazy, I can clearly hear the bass line in my head as if it was really in the mix. That`s quite scary actually.

It's quite noticeable and clear on my stereo... and like I said, I dig the line.

All I hear is a muddy rumble, no definition at all. I don't hear a clear bass line. Just an undefined rumble. The SRV version however has a very clear bass line!
