I saw The Tinsely Ellis Band Live.

Well the other night I saw a blues band called The Tinsely Ellis band. It is a professional band that has made many albums, although many people have never heard of their band.
Well now on with the show.
The band constisted of a bassist, guitarist, drummer, and keyboard player.

-Tinsely Ellis (guitarist) was outstanding at guitar, in my opinion he is better than Clapton, Hendrix and Ray Vahne put together. He has amazing frasing on his solos, and is sober when he plays.

-Evil One (bassist) is an amazing rock and blues bassist. He knows the fretboard like that back of his hand. He was playing some hybrid bass that was sunburst p-bass body, with jp configuration in the pickups. He could be compared to Tommy Shannon of Stevie Ray Vahne and Double Trouble, and the one and only Jack Bruce.

I really enjoyed this band, they put on a great show.
Im really glad that my dad went to college with Tinsely Ellis, or I would have probably never gone to that show.

Just for the record how many of you TBers have heard of this band.

There ya'll go.

I haven't ever heard of them. If you want to get a better response you need to put it in the proper forum like Misc.

I have a Tinsley Ellis CD somewhere. He's alright. Certainly not my favorite bluesman but he's pretty talented.

I first heard of him when I had to learn to sing "Baby, What Have I Done Wrong" for my blues class. Funky player, with a great voice!

I have a few Tinsely albums, I got into him because he had Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward in his band for awhile. He always seems to have good musicians around him.

He's good. My band covers a bunch of his songs.
He plays at the Double Door in Charlotte pretty regularly.

I remember seeing him quite a few times at a couple of clubs in Rome,Georgia back in the earliy 80's when I was just getting started on bass.he was pretty amazing then, and apparently still is. It's nice to see he's still going at it after 20+ years.

I went to see him last year at Healeys in Toronto with my Father in Law. I'd basically never heard of him as I'm not much of a blues fan, but he insisted I go.

It was pretty cool - he's a fantastic musician. The bass player was good too. He didn't really look the part whatever that means. He was a real "biker" looking guy.

I've seen Tinsley a number of times. He's a good player and he knows how to work the audience. He rolls through here (Minnesota) a couple of times a year.

Check out "Live--Highwayman," by Tinsley Ellis on Alligator with said "Evil One" on bass. It contains wall-to-wall powerhouse blues rockin'.

I've been a fan of Tinsley Ellis since his band toured South Florida in the early nineties. Actually I think he is quite underrated. The lyrics to his music are really quite interesting. I like the song where he has an unfortunate relationship with a woman that left him "Deaf, Dumb, Crippled and Blind." Very funny stuff.

He is the very definition of a blues man, touring constantly and recording frquently. It must be a tough life, especially playing in dank dives where many customers have little real appreciation for the blues.

When one thinks of an "A List" of blues masters, his name might not appear on it, but I really like the fact that he strives to keep blues alive in a world that may move on eventually just as they left rag time and other music forms behind in the past.

Here's a coincidence for you: the harp player in my band, Harold Tremblay, does a Wednesday drive time blues/roots music radio show on KFAI radio in Mpls. - St. Paul (a small community oriented FM station). This afternoon he did a telephone interview with none other than... Tinsley Ellis! Tinsley was driving up for a gig at Famous Dave's in Mpls.

Wow I just saw this!

Tinsley is one of my buddies, I used to get up to jam with him on Mondays at Northside Tavern here in ATL, for the Johnny Knox Blues jam...

...small world.
