The other day I picked up my fender P bass and after 10 mins I just thought "what's the point?" than put it down. Then I picked up my squier affienty strat and played it for 3 hours. Am I already losing my love for playing bass? |

Trade the bass for a banjo.

Try approaching bass from a new angle, listen outside of the genre you normal do, or start up a band.

A person called a Philistine (in the relevant sense) is said to despise or undervalue art, beauty, intellectual content, or spiritual values. Philistines are also said to be materialistic, to favor conventional social values unthinkingly, and to favor forms of art that have a cheap and easy appeal (e.g. kitsch)."
It was a small joke.Very small.Miniscule even.......

Playing bass by yourself is very boring and takes a lot of dedication, just to understand what the instrument is about.
If you join a band, and start playing fun music that you like with people ou enjoy the company of, you will be regain your interest.

I'm gonna go hunting for a drummer, get this band started and see if that will rekindle my interest in the bass guitar
Thanks everyone! |

| | | | That sucks dude. Girls like the deep end. Maybe it's just a phase. I have been playing over 30 years....but consistently...maybe 10. It happens. |

I find it comes in phases. Sometimes I'm in a bass phase, others a drum phase, others a guitar/vocal phase etc. It's rare that I'm not concentrating on one of them at any given time. But if you get bored playing bass (or drums) which really needs a band situation to inspire you, giving up and selling all you gear is the worst thing you can do. Because eventually you'll be back in the bass phase and then you'll discover what you did to yourself!
Anyway I assume you were playing melody on guitar rather than just strumming rhythm guitar! Sure when you are alone melody is more interesting than harmony. Just strum the changes to all the songs you know for 3 hours and see how great it is! |

| | | | Well theres certainly much better basses to be had imo. But if 6 string guitar more appeals to you, thats fine and good. Just let what groove sense you developed from bass benefit your guitar playing.
