Just remember: the more you get, the more you have to have space to store it, the more you have to carry to a gig, and the more maintenance budget you have to have.
I know that is the pot calling the kettle black, because I have several basses, amplifiers and assorted gear. But I also knew the above going in, and when I purchased a piece of equipment, it was either because I really liked the feel and tone (not one without the other), or it provided the basis (pun intended) for playing not just correctly, but optimally, the repertoire of the particular group in which I was or am the bassist. For example, in the last three years, my custom half-fanned P-bass, old Carvin amp and 1X15 cab I've played for over 20 years would have been just fine. But the line out on the old head started humming, and I "needed" a double bass for dance band with a different accompanying combo amp; a 5-string bass for horn band that plays repertoire where the bass players on the recordings of some of the songs have a particular riff the band wants me to emulate, etc.
Conversely, the old Polytone MkIII I had in college died many years ago, so occasionally some equipment does need to be replaced. Hence the old Carvin head. I got tired of carrying around the 2X15, even on casters, that I played in a band twenty years ago, so it went away for a 1X15.
Some items just aren't cost effective. Before the old Carvin head I had an Ampeg SVT head I got really cheap, and it worked worked well. But when I went to retube it, the cost of a complete retube at the time would have approached what I paid for the head, so I sold the SVT and got the old Carvin instead, which lasted 20+ years of regular gigging. I can still use it as a backup, I just have to use an external DI before the head.
So...enjoy! GAS is alright. But don't purchase on impulse. Even if it looks and sounds the best and is priced for the best deal of the year, unless you have a place to play it or use it, after the "new" or "gee-whiz" wears off, it will sit...and sit...and....
