I will never play in any band other then a power trio!

I'm spoiled. I want room to solo under the guitarist/singer's solo and to have more room to manuver. Plus, all three members will achieve equal praise. This is just my opinion though.

Power trios are great when you have three great guys workin together. My latest band is a power trio and we all really connect and can just flat out jam and keep it interesting.

I never want to play in any band besides a 15 piece afro-funk band.
Or a 5 ninjas with a horn section with an awesome lead samurai sword player.
Or... maybe I just need my medication adjusted...

Some of the greatest bands ever were just three people!

Last band was trio. My current band has 5 members though 2
of them only sing. We may add keys - dunno yet.

What I really want is to play in a huge R&B band with a horn
section and three girl backup singers in slinky dresses.

I guess I'm working my down to a trio. I used to be in a nine piece band complete with horn section a long time ago. I have a three piece + singer these days. Who knows what the future holds??

I may do a trio next, for all the above mentioned reasons. I have worked with as many as 15 pieces, and lemme tell ya? practice scheduling flat out sucked! We wound up rehearsing sections.

I've done trios before and enjoy the freedom immensely. I have to say however that a four piece is my personal sweet spot.

I like power trios, but show me somebody who refuses to play with any other kind of band and I'll show you somebody who's never experienced the joy of playing with a good horn section.

+1 to the guy who mentioned playing in a 15 piece afro beat band. I'd love that.
I would also love to play in a band with a great horn section. Ive only played with guitar players as I live in a small town and Im still in high school. When I leave town for college I hope to play with more keyboard players and hope to maybe find that Afro beat band .

I play in a couple and they are a great diversion from my 6 piece band. So much more room in the sound to make a statement without cluttering up the song.

The thing is, the space that exists in a power trio can exist in a power anything, it's just forced in a trio. Peter Gabriel is a good example of this, most of his songs have 20 different things going on at once, but it's all so minimal.

That said, I'm in a trio right now. It's interesting, I'm certainly busying up my playing, which is fun. But if another member was added, I might prefer it. It is forcing me into new stuff though.

I have been in one now for almost 15 years, I don't know if I could do any different.

Just listen to THE BAND OF GYPSIES live at the filmore east album. Yeah, Jimi was on fire, but Billy Cox was also holding the groove down while making use of all of that free space! It was only three people but the sound was huge!

Right now, I'm in a "band" with:

A drummer, two keyboard player, a percussionist, a lead singer, five back up singers. Yes the sound is full and beautiful but I desire more space for expression and letting a little bit of "me" come out.

My dream is to play with just a guitar playing singer and a drummer. I never even played with a guitar player besides just jamming for an hour or two on occasions.

Only upon your imagination,If you want to extend chordal work, counterpoint and harmony then theres no toes to tread on, I have done 10 piece bands etc, always living in a little pocket, but at the moment im in a power trio with old friends, previous band was a 3 piece for the last 2 years, its so enjoyable.
