I will never ship a bass again.

Awhile back General Electric and I agreed to a bass trade. My Jaguar for his Jazz and it went great. We both shipped out the same week. I shipped FedEx and he shipped USPS (Both of their rates have gone way up, btw).

Everything seemed to go fine. The Jaguar was supposed to be delivered on the 18th. It left New Jersey that morning and was never seen again. Now I'm in the process of a claim with FedEx. Anyone ever deal with it before? I had insured the jaguar for 400 (too low, I know. I'm sure I'll pay for it). The replacement cost for a brand new jag is 600. I paid 50 bucks in shipping. So, on their claim form the claim value is 650. I wonder if that will actually happen.

Like I said, GE shipped his jazz to me via USPS to make it easy for me to get the bass on campus. He mailed it out last Friday. The tracking hasn't updated once for it. However, I know USPS's tracking system is sketchy at best so it isn't entirely troubling. It still hasn't arrived either, which is strange. Typically USPS is pretty on time for me. I don't know if its been lost yet. If I don't have it by friday, I'll file a claim.

I will never ship again. I've now had problems with all the major shipping companies. Now it'll only be Texas deals.

Hang in there, it might turn out OK. I shipped a Walter Woods head with FedEx and it got stuck at the border for over two weeks because of faulty paperwork (on their end). It took some phone calls and a lot of patience, but eventually it got where it had to go.

I hold my breath every time I buy or sell. After 15 shipped instrument purchases & 8 sales, (plus many more smaller items) I've been lucky.

Same here. I ordered from Great Britain and my shipment was WAY delayed due to customs f'ing up.

As long as it makes it in one piece eventually I'd be okay personally. There's much that could happen with shipping an item that's much worse...

Wow so the jazz is possibly lost as well? I would not give up hope at least on GE's jazz, usps has delivery confimation which i guess only confirms delivery dates not when its in transit , so i have been told. Also there system is pretty lax , i doubt the jazz is lost.

However it sounds like that jag maybe long gone , sorry about that. Did they leave it on his door step? maybe someone ripped it off?

btw i have had to file a claim with bothe Fedex and UPS. On the UPS one the seller got burnt i got all my money back and felt bad for the guy but it was his packaging mistakes.

On my claim for Fedex it was with the freight department. I got a personal person to talk to about my claim it was only a 240$ cab and it came with a cosmetic tear in it, after exchanging emails with the claims worker i recieved a 100$ check 1 week later in the mail for a small tolex tear on a cab worth only 240$.

Here is the email of brock , cool guy who worked out my fedex claim with no evidence or paperwork having to be done on m end , i think he may only do freight claims, not sure.

Probably stolen. It was in a Yamaha synth box. Someone probably got bad surprise, thinking they were getting a synth.

I've had 7 basses sent to me from the states, 6 of them via USPS, one of them from TX and never had any problem.

sure they'd go off the radar the moment they've hit our shores (thanks Israel post... :-/) but they always showed up safe and sound afterwards.

Actually it's pretty easy!
I used to work for DHL and got laid off and now work
for United / Swissport cargo.

1) Packages are Not labeled with any addresses.
So they get put in Lost& Found area until someone
can do some research on them. then reships them.

2) Packages get missorted in wrong belt area and
get routed to wrong city.
Then if the crew is not alert they may not ship back to awhile to correct city.

3) Sometimes they are stacked on top of each other
and misplaced for awhile.
Fedex & UPS & DHL & United warehouses are pretty big-couple of football fields... and if you can imagine
all the boxes lying around in their respective
areas ready to sorted...

So don't give up yet.
