If my doctor told me to change my pillowcase...

Sign in to disble this ad
...does that mean I have to change the new set of strings I just put on my bass? I developed a super nasty case of pinkeye just before last nights gig and I was pulling gook outta my eye all night. Do I have to change those strings now or will whatever is at the evil root of pinkeye die if I just leave the bass alone for a couple of days?

It won't die out. Could you clean the strings somehow? Like, with rubbing alcohol, or something?

I would change out the strings, and whatever else may exacerbate your pinkeye. At this point, I don't think I would care about shelling out 15 bucks for some crappy strings, as long as you get that pinkeye cured.

Boil the strings in plain water for 10 mins or soak them in denatured alcohol for a few hours.

Do you know what the cause of the problem is? Allergy, bacteria, or virus? Seriously, you should be just fine with keeping those strings on, just wipe them down with some isopropyl alcohol, wash your hands frequently, and wipe down your strings with the alcohol after every time you play until the symptoms go away.

I'm gonna give them an alcohol rubdown. It's more the lazy factor than the cheap factor in regard to changing them.

The pignose is long gone, guess I could update my profile.

I don't know if this is a virus, bacteria or what, but I'm getting a little nervous as this is almost 3 days into this thing and it still looks pretty frightening. I'm takin antibiotics for it too. Perhaps I'll post a pic.

PS I'd change the strings or give 'em a nice chemical bath of some kind.

Here's a feel good story. A guy I worked with never took his contacts out when he slept and it created mini lesions on his eye, he got pink eye and it infected the entire eye and he almost had to have his retina replaced via transplant. After some SERIOUS hardcore antibiotics, flushes, eye drops and about 6 months of treament he got 80% of his vision back.

The moral, always use hand sanitizer.

Why isn't "always take your contacts out to sleep" the moral?

My wife recently got over a bout with pinkeye. Luckily, none of the rest of us in the family got it.

She was given some sort of antibiotic eyedrops. They cleared it up in a matter of a couple days. She was pretty miserable up until it went away, though.
