If you could join a famous band...

...which would it be? There's alot of bands that I admire, but very few that I could think I could actually be happy in. If you could replace the bassist in a band, which band would it be? And I'm not just talking replacing, but also contributing the the band process as well.

I think I could be happy playing bass for:

David Bowie
the current King Crimson line up (I'd have to do alot of practicing)
SleepyTime Gorilla Museum
Soundgarden

I think that's about it. I listen to TONS of bands, but those are the only that I can honestly say I could probably work with. You?

I just finished listening to their Live album, quality isn't all that great, but the album is mesmerizing. Someday I hope to see them live.

What do you mean by famous? I would like to join the Jam and mayhaps help push for a few more skankable hits.

Aside from that (which isn't really much of a choice, because I doubt I could stand being with Paul Weller for too long) all the bands I really really like have bassists that I respect greatly and I don't want, nor feel that I could, replace them.

Actually, there are a lot of bands I'd play with, but the first three that popped into my head are the above.

I used to want to be in Phish or Widespread Panic - I would fantasize that Mike Gordon or Dave Schools got sick and I was able to fill in!

I wouldn't have minded playing for Govt. Mule during the Deep End stuff...

My most recent fantasy was to play for Acid Mothers Gong - members of Acid Mothers Temple and Gong that played here in Japan recently.

But my fingers are so out of shape they would probably blister and fall off!!!

Live.
I'd also say Metallica, but wouldn't want to get the Newsted treatment

I seriously had to think about this one for a while, but then suddenly Porcupine Tree popped into my head. So... Porcupine Tree it is.

I'd like to play in Rush.

Geddy is nothing compared to my awesome bass skills...

Just kidding, Geddy. I don't want to invoke thy wrath.

Gard!

Nice list you have there, but those three are among my all time favs.
I have preformed with Eric Johnson a couple of times and he is KILLIN! (and a heck of a nice guy)

Metheny or Gabriel would also be at the top of my list......

(and of course if Sting could not play bass for the Police reunion, I would certainly volunteer my life!
