If you could wake up tomorrow as a world class musician, which instrument?

If you could wake up tomorrow and have world class ability at the instrument of your choice, what would it be and why? you don't necessarily play just like any particular person, you're just really good being yourself.

lots of things to consider: do you take the guitar for a shot at being a rockstar or do you take the violin for a steady career playing music you didn't write with little fame. do you switch to drums since you'll probably be successful enough to have roadies so you don't have to carry the damn things or do you stick with what you picked when this wasn't an issue?

I'd go with world class pianist. Any style of music, any gig you got it. Don't have to about dealing with guitards, or bassholes. Just you and a keyboard.

Adny

PS. I wouldn't mind being a world class theremin player, but no gigs

I would say either cello or piano. I like playing by myself, but no one wants to see a solo bass gig (although there are lots of very talented solo bass musicians I would see anyday), but piano a cello are both very well accepted solo instruments.

Operatic tenor would be pretty wicked too though.

I play bass. Why in **** would I want to be a world class anything else?

IMO, if you answer anything other than bass, you should sell your gear and start over with your chosen instrument, because obviously, you don't enjoy playing bass enough.

I love playing bass, and for what I want to do with it, well I'm perfectly happy. I don't want to be an amazing bass player, just a good solid player and honestly I achieved that goal.

I get bored hearing solo bass. I can only take so much super fast Charlie Parker heads and slapping and poping and tappin' and all the rest. I don't want to be one of those guys. I believe in being a support role in music.

Besides, these days I'm in it for the money first and you can make a lot more, do a lot more as a good keyboard player than anything else.

Oh i wouldn't change any thing, I enjoy the bass and as stated, I'm happy with my playing as it is. The question is if could wake up as a world class musician...

At this stage in my life, I find all performing boring. That's why I play theremin, the only instrument that still interests me.

Strangely enough, after sitting down and thinking about it, I can't come up with an answer.

Because if I was going to be a "world class musician," I'd want to do it with some sort of noise project akin to Merzbow, and there really isn't an instrument, per say, for that.

Because being called a world class noise musician would just be cool as hell, I think.

Guitar ability has very little bearing on becoming a rock star, post-80s at least. It's all about songwriting IMO, and if I could be anything I'd be a world-class songwriter. Failing that though I'd pick violin, I'd think you can make pretty good bank doing that.

Klassic-kemenche. It's a Turkish classical violin, and in the hands of a master it is one of the most expressive instruments I have ever heard.
