You....need I say "Why"?

OK, besides you...I would go with William Parker cause I'm listening to some of his stuff right now.
Why? Parker has played with both Cecil Taylor & Anthony Braxton. I would like to know how one can hear/digest what they play/do...and make it happen as a member of the rhythm section.

I have no desire to read about other bassists and what gear they use.

I'd rather just play than waste time reading about it.

Really? 8100 posts later... Just kidding, of course. Seriously, I'd be more interested in reading about how the artists evolve in terms of gear and tone, emphasizing what works live and what works in the studio.

anthony jackson

...because, although i've heard/ heard of/read of him many times, only recently have i begun to really start to listen to what he's been doing and not only is his playing intriguing, he seems to be a very knowledgeable, creative and forward-thinking fellow

next, i'd like to interview stu brooks of dub trio

he has developed a great way of combining the classic sound of the instrument with newer, fresh sounds and doing the same with the way the instrument is used within the context of a band

his work with peeping tom is fantastic, and i feel he pushes the envelope a bit while having a solid knowledge of where the instrument has been

..and then i'd interview karl grable of the urge

because i'm very curious as to what he's been doing musically since the urge disbanded...this cat killed it in that band with the whole package and his growly sound is still one of my favorites to this day

I think I got the idea from these forums, but it would be great to honor the 40th anniversary of King Crimson with a roundtable discussion with all surviving KC bassists (including Warr Guitarist Trey Gunn).

If I owned my own bass magazine, it'd tank after six months. It wouldn't sell and I have no real discretionary income to finance it as a labor of love.

There's a number of players I admire in the most sincere manner that seem to dominate bass-oriented media. It's the same six guys, over and over, lather, rinse, repeat. For my fantasy rag, I'd definitely feature Anthony Jackson, Alex Al, and studio players in LA, NYC, Nashville, and Atlanta. I'd also feature accomplished local players around the country who are under the radar and/or haven't won the success lottery of national recognition.

I would interview various professionals. Why, because they are inspirations to many, they are professionals and also have advice they can loan to amateur's trying to make it in the music scene.

I would also interview amateur's as well this way they could get some exposure.

Hmmmmm....

Two bass mag related posts from Jauqo in the last few days.

RedemptionBass wonders (and likes typing in the third person) what Jauqo has cooking.

I'd interview the little guys. The cats who make a living playing in successful corporate cover bands. Cats who play for Tyler Perry plays (or any plays). Gospel bass players (not just Gouche and Fitz). Funk/R&B players old and new! Blues players old and new. Smooth Jazz players like Nathan East, Andre Berry, Bill Sharpe, etc.

Edit: Add all the female bass players!

I'd interview anyone who could sell large amounts of magazines so the ad rates would be as high as possible and I'd make as much money as possible.

Must be the same reason you have over 8,000 posts on this Bass Forum - you need to play less and post more

Matt Garrison and Anthony Jackson for every issue....

hehehehe

probably guys like Renaud Garcia-Fons, kooky guys like you, some indie builders, more working stiffs that are heavy weight sessioneers in their respective cities.

make sure to keep a BIG eye out for bassists in Europe (UK too) Asia, Africa, Persia, Asia, etc., a lot more of an international scope.

Little guys, session players.

I'd like every interview to have a wood shop section.
