I have a gig coming up. And it's like right in a hot spot area of talent here in Michigan. Over the last couple years, I've been looking for a new band. I had auditions, I've had people blow me off, I've had both. I've had the same guy snag two spots in two different bands I was trying out for. A lot of that happend right in this area where the gig is.
I've finally got something going, it's a dark progressive rock band, kind of like Pink Floyd meets Rush. I met the primary songwriter/singer/guitarist through Craigslist. The band has had some critical sucess, but has gone through a few member changes, except for the leader, who's the only original member. We have a really strong line up now. I'm really excited to be playing with these players. Quite possibly the best players I've worked with. And definitly the most complete band I've been in. Everyone is at the top of their game.
We have a gig coming up on July 23. Who has that feeling like, "I hope everyone who ever blew me off is here, now check out this tasty lick!"? I know it's completly stupid, and probably none of those people will be there. I know that probably the best revenge is just being satisfied with where I'm at. But at the same time, I can't wait to blow the roof off of that place, and leave the haters in the dust!

That is if they even really know you exist. It sounds like you have created this "ongoing battle" in your own head... He might be there, but not know why you are acting the fool...
Just food for thought. |

You should be playing for the love of it.

Don't worry I didn't steal any of your gigs. |

When you're on stage--what better goal than to "show 'em how great you are"? Sheesh. "playing for the love of it"...sounds like I'm in a room full of bass players and rhythm guitarists.
I say good on you, and go for it! |

No biggy, it can work as a motivator, but keep it on a tight leash if you do.

Other people will love, hate, be perplexed, intrigued, fascinated, disgusted, want to be just like you, want to be nothing like you, find your playing to be stellar, find your playing to be silly - and if you allow your sense of yourself and your enjoyment of what you do to be impacted by any of that, you will always lose.
Do it, do it well, make yourself happy and **** the world and what they think.
