Why do guitarist in general always say that it is harder to play guitar than bass. In my band the bass lines i have put together are way more complex and creative than any of theirs so what the hell

Your guitarist is being ignorant. Ask him to play one of your lines.

My guitarist, on the other hand, rocks. He was the bassist before I joined, and frankly he kicks my butt.

Because they're as anxious as you are to make everyone think they're the best in the group.

I think for most people it is easier to play single notes instead of chords. There is much more to playing bass than guitar players know. For instance, the guitar player in my band messing around a little with writing music and when he comes up with a bass line it is often not well thought out and has no real feel to it. He tells me how smooth I play and how the songs just feel good with a real bass player. I think he kinda gets it.
It's not just the notes you play, its dynamics, feel, timing, note choice, and other things that are hard to put a finger on.
It's also the notes you dont play if that makes sense.
Don't listen to those who talk out of their a**. Do your thing and be your own guy/ girl.

Sounds like a case of insecurity on both parts. You're both feeling insecure about your own inabilities, so you've invented a competition to see who sucks the most. Nobody cares about this in the real world, they'll just see that your band sucks because you're playing against each other instead of alongside each other.

if you are so easily offended at people claiming that their instrument is harder than yours, i suggest selling the bass and buying a Sarangi...those are not very easy to play at all. Very few people will argue with their difficulty
