The "I'm Glad I Wasn't Able To Sell That" Thread

I recently bought an Aguilar 1x12 cabinet thinking it would sound better than my Markbass 4x10 cabinet. Obviously, that's a matter of opinion. A bass friend who I respect a lot highly recommended the Aguilar. I bought it and have been playing with it for a few weeks. During that time I tried to sell the Markbass 4x10 on the classifieds with no luck. For some reason, the Aguilar was never really capable of getting the sound I was looking for. The other night I figured I'd A/B the two to see it I was missing something. Lo and behold, the Markbass sounded stunning in comparison. Now I've decided to keep both. I'm so very glad the Markbass didn't actually sell because it would have been a huge mistake. I'm keeping the Aguilar as well because it's much easier to transport for rehearsals.

Has anyone had similar experiences regarding gear that just didn't sell on the classifieds or eBay?

Which Aguilar and which Markbass?
Aguilar makes two lines of cabinets with different sounds, plus the SL

It's the GS112. I have a Aguilar DB750 and I think it's too much power for that cab. I was starting to get a distorted tone. The Markbass is the 104HR and it sounds so smooth in comparison.

I think expecting any 112 to fill in for a 410 is just hoping for too much. I'm glad your 410 didn't sell. Now you do have a flexible set of cabinets to cover different kinds of gigs, which is cool.

I'm almost thinking a 2x10 might be a better choice for a small portable cab than a 1x12. Any opinions?

Try two Aguilar SL 112"s. I did not care for the GS cabs at all, but the SL's are a different beast.

I think 2x12 (or two 112's) has a much better chance of subbing in for a 4x10 than a 2x10 does- unless you find that usually the 4x10 is great over-kill on your gigs.
