I'm looking for a nice leather strap...

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a site that sells some nice genuine leather guitar straps. I'm not too impressed with all the levy's stuff, so I wanted to look elsewhere...

Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

okay, with everything gear related...basses, amps, strings...."the best" is subjective. EXCEPT when it comes to straps: Moody. Moody is the best .....PERIOD. In case you missed it......MOODY. I will never use another strap except MOODY.

If somebody thinks there is a better strap it is because they haven't tried Moody!

They cost between $100 and $150 depending on length and width.

I got a 4" black leather strap from italiastraps for about 20 bucks, I love it. The bad part: took 5 weeks to arrive

Glenn Cronkhite makes a really well designed strap. It's made of a wide piece (8 inches maybe?) of leather folded in half--the fold side is towards your neck, not the stitched seam, so it's soft and comfortable. He then cuts it down so it's narrow where it meets the strap pins and wide over the shoulder. Looks good, feels great. He has kind of a primitive web site. Call him and he'll be great to do biz with. He asks what color, what lengths range and whether or not you want it drilled for strap pins. Price is like the Moody's or the Italia, as I recall, cheaper than moody, more like Italia

I have one of Italia's 4" straps also, and love it. I lucked out and it was shipped right away. I bought 2 more a few weeks back though and will probably wait a couple of more before I receive them.

Considering the quality and price of the straps, it's worth the wait though.

I'll third Italiastraps. FWIW I didn't have a waiting problem.

Dang, at $100 to $150 a strap I wouldn't even want to investigate them. I'm sorry, my mind can't even fathom why anyone would pay that much for a strap, not to mention what could possibly go into a strap to justify that kind of price. I don't doubt you, just would never spend that kind of money to find out whether I felt it was worth it.

My strap which I have had for the past 5 years does just fine -- it's comfortable for an entire show and even holds my bass where it needs to be. Seems to me that's what should be expected of a good strap. Better yet, it only set me back $30!

I bought my first one a year ago. I was standing in a booth at a Bass Player Magazine event, playing bass for three days straight.......six plus hours a day. After day one my shoulder was killing me. At the end of the day I bought a Moody strap and wore it for the next two days. That's when I knew I'd never buy another strap unless it was a Moody.

Expense? It's all relative.

+1 ... the Moody straps are well worth the price, and Talkbass gives you a nice discount (as well as the big bass clef on the front)

I have two Moody 4" straps (one Talkbass ... I need to renew my supporting membership, too) as well as Levy, stingray and no-name ... Moody is the most comfortable by far

I knew a guy who used to say "the only difference between a steak dinner at The Sizzler, and one at Morton's, is the price."

LOL What can you say to someone like that?

Guitar Center has Franklin straps, which are wide and supple, about $35. Dig mine.
