I never "argue" or wage wars with anyone online. Noone ever wins and both people end up looking like idiots. Ok...that said
I was watching a young cat on youtube with some lessons. Decent lessons but with the kind of air and arrogance of a 'young punk' college student who thinks that because he can wank over Giant Steps he knows everything and is the only person with something valid to say. Totally ignored the vibe I got from him. I just figured - whatever, lets hear him out. Then I decide to do a little research, see what he's all about.
Sure enough - I find a response of his to someone else on TB that was so fn arrogant it made my skin crawl...OMG, why am I giving this cat so much air time in my brain???!!!
I despise that whole arrogance thing. I realize that all of us have a little bit of cockiness to us but I think that you really have to keep that thing in check.
I would NEVER say that someone sucked or that they had nothing to contribute. Never. everyone has SOMETHING to contribute! Babies even. Shoot - sometimes I think that I was a better player BEFORE I knew much about theory because I really did play like a child. I had fun, I didn't think about it. Then you learn a bunch of theory and then you have to re-learn how to PLAY. (at least I did....do)
Ok, ok, I'll stop now. This is the first and last time anyone on TB wil ever hear me whine about anything.
I should just let it go. Maybe I need a nap. It's just anytime I read something or see someone being an arrogant ass I just wish I could walk right up to 'em a kick 'em in the shins. |

this happens because there's a great distance between you and the next guy over the internet, even if he/she is your neighbour. Its this distance, that gives us the feeling of ultimateness. I'm victim to it too, I'm not going to lie. |

The point that I was trying to make is HOW DARE ANYONE - ANY OF US ever...EVER even insinuate that someone - regardless of "experience" doesn't have something to contribute!
I WISH I had even half of the seemingly "crappy" instructional videos that exist on youtube when I was 14 (in 1984).
Even babies have something to contribute. They probably have the most to contribute because they have no fear...until we, who think we know it all, give it to them. Maybe the guy I'm refferring to will stumble across this thread one day and what I'm saying , or at least trying to say, will sink in. Maybe every musician who thinks their the **** will, if having their musical asses handed to them hasn't done that already.
Sure, this cat can play. he's really, really good. Too bad it's over shadowed by his ego. Ahhh.. again, I've said to much. We all have to have our asses handed to us at some point.
No one person knows everything. I sure don't, and when/if I ever do I should just die because then what would be the point of living? alright. I'm off of the soap box. :-)
thanks all who have indulged in my little rant :-)

won't go anywhere. Being a successful musician has a lot to do with creativity
and skill but it also has a lot to do with networking and people skills. This guy
probably won't get to far with his solo over "Giant Steps" with all that arrogance.
It's lame.
I prefer to spend time working on my skills instead of bashing others.
...ok I've waste a good 3 min. typing this. I'm going to go run over some modes.

She opened her tiny eyes and looked at me with Daggers. You could just tell she was thinking :-
'For christs sake B, you wanna sharpen that 7th or what holmes, i'm trying to get some sleep here'.
'Hmmmm...' I thought to my bad self, '...babies do have something to contribute'. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
