The importance of packing well...

On a recent deal, I was to be trading pedals with someone on the boards. I get the box, and it has nothing but packing materials in it. I Check the info on the box, and the registered weight is right for the pedal I am to be getting. After checking it out a bit, it turns out, the pedal must have been stolen in transit, through the bottom of the box (a shoebox) which had a fold together system that was secure enough to hold, but not to keep from thieving hands. Some mailing tape of a different type was tossed on to seal up the box (presumably by the person with my pedal).

To clarify, I have no problem with the person I was dealing with as I have had packing issues once or twice. We got things worked out, and there is definitely no ill feelings from my end. I don't hold him responsible for the theft. But this is a good warning for everyone to make sure to secure everything. There are dishonest people between us all, handling our precious gear. So, make it as hard as you can for them to slink off with your gear!

Hmm, that really sucks! Oh well, in time that person may come to appreciate the suffering they have caused and repent for their actions

In the meantime, I'm glad there are no ill feelings between two TB'ers over this incident!

The only less-than-positive feedback I have left for a TBer was because of packing issues. The seller jammed two pedals, which didn't fit, into the same box with almost no padding. When they arrived, one of them was broken "in transit." It took the seller weeks to make a refund, and he made me eat return shipping to him.

I always over-pack my items.

With my trades, I generally don't send my stuff until I get my item. It makes some people uneasy, but I have never had a deal go bad, and I have never screwed anyone. I live within 10 minutes from a moderator, and within 30 from another well known member. They'd both kick my butt if I did a deal wrong. So, I'm not out a pedal, but he, unfortunately, is.

Its a lesson to always spend the little extra on insurance!

I always overpack everything aswell, and make sure its all taped to death so its gonna take a good 20 minutes to get into

Man, first the "UPS problems" thread, and now this one. That's got to be frustrating. Hopefully it's just a bad week and things will pick up for you later.

I tend to overpack and overtape for this very reason.

I have to say, UPS customer service was surprisingly good. I told them that tracking online showed that he came by when he didn't. I also told them he didn't leave a tag at all. They were kind of surprised about that. They sent him back out, and a manager even called to verify that he had been there. I'm not displeased, I think he just wanted to go home, and forget about going all the way out to my place until the next day. But, I wasn't going to let that happen when they had my new bass!
