Improving vocals

Sign in to disble this ad
Well I have far from good vocal skills but I'd like to be able to do vocals well to do back up vocals for my band (as I am the only one that can play and sing at the same time though my singing is far from good.) I was wondering is there any guides or online sites that have tips for improving your singing?

YOu can take voice lessons and work on technique untill you turn blue, but there is only so much you can do to enhance what you have. I can sing on pitch, but I dont have an attractive sounding voice.

Have you taken lessons or have several years experience in singing?

I'd say there's a LOT you can gain by taking lessons and focusing on vocal technique and phrasing. People just think "there's only so much you can do about it". But IMHO that's BS. Your usable vocal range will likely expand, you'll learn to sing both softly and loudly in a controlled manner, with different soundcolours (timbre), and, perhaps most important, how to sing in a healthy way.

There's really a lot you can do to enhance what you have, or, it's perhaps how you see it. Is the glass half empty or half full? To me, gaining a fifth in my high register and singing more dynamically was a lot. That was the result after my few first vocal lessons about a year ago. If I'd compare my current range with my range when I started out about 12 years ago, the difference is over an octave in the high range, my voice is much more stable, and I've become much more versatile as a singer. You tell me if that sounds like a minor or major improvement....
