Incase Gig Bag?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I like the incase Slim bag for bass at goincase.com but Ive only seen one at NAMM and I didnt really check it out. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one and what they thought. I love hardshells but theyre too heavy. I have a Lakland JO and a Rickenbacker 4003 and am pretty sure both fit but just wanna know how they protect, hold up, and any other details.
Thanks, Lovebrigade

Ps if youve got one you wanna sell, PM me

I have an Incase Slim Bag, and I absolutely love it. It is my MTD 635's permanent home. It is truly a remarkable design, and I recommend them to everyone. However, I tend to think of it more as a "soft case" with gig bag like portability.

Got mine from Sadowsky before he went to Portabag. Love mine. Even came with a yellow rain cover. Take the straps off, and it will fit inside an SKB rolling bass safe. You could throw it off a cliff and the bass would survive. I used this combination to ship my bass from Korea to VA with success, and just last week from VA to TX and the bass arrived in tune.

It's not for sale.

A lump sighting? Wow!

I just ordered one of these Slimbags last week...the guitarist I play with is one of these guys that always stays on top of everything: Ya wanna know what TV to buy...ask him. What computer (as long as it's an APPLE) to buy? He's your man,
So, when I finally indulged myself & bought a bass that I didn't assemble...he steered me toward Incase.
He's more than happy toting his Suhrs & Tyler around in these 'bags'.

As I've posted before on a few occasions, the Slimbags are GREAT. However, I prefer the original model to the newest model with the 'alpine backpack' system, which I find over-designed and somewhat cumbersome (IMO).

The Sadowsky Portabag is actually closer to the original Slimbag design, is a little less expensive, is lighter, and offers about 90% of the protection of the SlimBag. It has a similar large storage pocket, and has a very nice removable 'extra padding' feature at the bottom of the bag that assures that virtually every bass will fit. Highly recommended!

There is a similar bag for MUCH less money (closer to $100) made by Pro Tec called the Contego that also seems very good, although I haven't seen one in person. You can see it on their site.

I'm a fan of the new design Slim Bag. The back pack system on the new bag is easily concealed in the pouch for it (though the back pack straps are usefull), and I prefer using the single shoulder strap which I use probably 99% of the time. Just from looking at pictures of the old bag and new bag, it seems that old design had backpack like straps built in, but they don't attach as high on the bag as the single shoulder strap does on the newer slim bag, which effectively lowers the bag's center of gravity on your shoulder making it not sit so high above your head when walking through door ways and such. I have a really nice fender gig bag that has back pack straps like the original slim bag, and even when slinging over one shoulder I have to watch the door frames so I don't smack the top of the bag into it.

That's always been my problem with backback straps. I'm 6'5" so getting under doorways without hitting the head is always a challenge. I'm looking at the Levy's double (not the leather one), so I can carry both basses at once. Any other decent doubles for under $150?

+1... it just depends on your situation. The backpack system is too cumbersome for me, since I just go from the house to the car to the gig to the car and back to the house. If I was walking long distances (i.e., like a student going to Berklee in Boston or something like that), it would make more sense.

I can't use a single strap system, since I'm a 'one trip' freelancer, strapping the bass on my back and pushing my amp and cab into the gig on wheels or in a cart in a single trip.

The original SlimBag basically had the same wonderful large padded single strap design (super thick and padded) in a standard 'two strap' classic configuration. Interestingly, the PortaBag's strap system is virtually identical to the original SlimBags'.

No big deal, but since carrying a bag on your back is one of the reasons to get a bag versus a case, the strap design is key, and should be considered when purchasing one of these bags. Both designs are great for different applications!

This isn't a problem though with the newer slim bags wide single shoulder strap. At least it hasn't been for me...

I'm a one tripper myself. I throw my cab on a dolly, amp and accesories bag on top, and my bass over my shoulder. The large single shoulder strap on the newer slim bag works great for this. I almost always just keep the "backpack system" hidden in its compartment.

Interesting. I can't imagine walking any distance pushing a rig with the bass hanging relatively loosely to the side on a single strap (versus strapped tightly on your back). Again, if it works for you it works!

Yeah, I'm not saying that everyone will like it, but it works just fine for me. I wouln't say it is loosely hanging to the side. It is a single shoulder strap, but the case sits along the center of my back.

The perfect description!
I have an original slim as well as a dub. I also have had a new design slim which I sold to purchase the dub. The original as well as the new both have features that are great and not so great. If I could combine the two it would be perfection. The new design is heavier and could make a long trip cumbersome. The new design also has a much nicer neck rest. Either way they are great cases, built like tanks and will offer protection like no other "soft" bag.

Yeah, I've been traveling a lot over the last year or so, plus I kinda got watch what I say on the old interweb thing these days. My post count is down from my usually steady 0.69/day to 0.65. I gotta work on that.

Very Helpful

Thanks guys, youve been really helpful. I'll probably buy one, if only it were a couple pounds lighter.

PICS?

Also, does anyone have any pics or would be willing to take any of a bass in it and maybe the pockets and stuff? I know incase has some good ones on their website but I'd like to see some by people not associated with the company.

thanks, Lovebrigade

I'm thinking about these as well... Anyone know any stores that carry them? A guy I know in another band has a double guitar bag, and it's awesome, but I'd like to see a bass bag before purchasing.

You should be very happy with it. Incase stuff is top notch. I love my DUB bag, and if I needed another case or bag, the Slim would be at the top of my list.
