The inward scream is a very interesting sound. When I do it, I have to be careful not to inhale too hard or I end up coughing a lot. To practice it, just inhale an close up your throat a bit - you'll feel it. Practice it in the car and find out where your limits are so you don't go for it in front of people only to end up hacking and coughing like bad OT...

As for the other scream (or any 'extreme' vocals) BE CAREFUL! Just because you can scream doesn't mean you should! And I am no vocal expert, but I would imagine that lots of warm up exercises to get the chords loose and being extra careful not to strain or ruin you voice box is doubly important if your in a band that does a lot of screaming.

I'd definitely talk to a vocal coach about the proper way to scream (both ways) to avoid injury.

It's a joke, man. Tenacious D is nothing but rock and roll humor.

I'm not really a fan of screaming anyways, so I can't help you there.

Thanks to this topic i've been researching the issue... I'm now convinced that inward screaming is one of the leading causes of erectile disfunction.

It may also cause an increase in global warming due to excessive hording of oxygen and Co2. Could cause trouble for your governmentally.

Best to not risk it.

Again...The Zen of Screaming DVD set. She just came out with the second edition.

Want brutal? In order to better understand the physics of screaming, she grabbed Lamb of God's vocalist (amongst others) and shoved a camera down their noses while they screamed so she could see what their vocal cords were doing, and teach other people to do it.

This woman's method is what proffesionals use to be able to do extended tours without node surgery, or 'scream' for a few hours, and still talk normally in the morning, for that matter.
