In that video... towards the end some dude sits down on an instrument and starts beating away at it. What is that called? I really dig that thing.

That would be a Cajon, they are very cool and they can produce a wide variety of sounds for basically a wooden box. There are ones available with snare sounds and good looking woods too. And they can be had or made very reasonably.
