Hello everyone! Could you provide names of good instrumental groups in the fusion area? I'm talking about groups such as Niacin and Liquid Tension Experiment, ect.

Transatlantic

They have a mixture of instrumental and vocal tunes.

Definitely check out some Jean Luc-Ponty stuff. All instrumental fusion material.

Skeletonbreath- gypsy-jazz-rock power trio (bass, drums, and electric violin). They rock signifigantly harder than most jazz fusion groups.

Scale the Summit- jazzy prog-metal

An Endless Sporadic- prog-rock

Behold... the Arctopus- I don't even know how to begin describing their music other than "experimental". In fact, I don't know if I'd call it "music" at all. Another weird power trio, guitar, drums, and Warr Guitar (which is sort of like a Chapman Stick).

Enjoy!

My band A Troop Of Echoes is kinda like fusion but more rock than jazz.

I might get yelled at for saying this but...
Joe Satriani- Surfing with the Alien is one of the most wankerous, self-indulgent albums ever made--and, henceforth, it is awesome (seriously, that album is a lot more musical than it gets credit for).

I used to get guitar lessons from a guy named Chris. He's in the band Scale the Summit. They're pretty big and instrumental. Great band.

German Bassist Helmut Hattler has lots of instrumental fusion stuff out both as a solo artist and with his band Kraan.

Yep! I took lessons in his old house back when he first moved to Houston up until a few months after they got signed to Prosthetic. I got to see the two 6 strings that he built himself, his old Conklin, and the first two 8 strings that he got built from Sherman.
