Just wondering if anyone could tell me how much it usually cost to insure a bass for shipment and also where I can find out the paypal fees. I wanna purchase a bass on here but I also wanna make sure I have enough to pay all the fees before I say I'm ready to purchase. Funds are tight but I gotta have this bass. Thanks in advance for your help.

They charge based on declared value. I shipped something USPS today declared at $500 and it cost about $6 extra.

Yep; and continuing up, I shipped something insured for $1600 and the insurance was like $50, and out of curiosity one time I looked up the insurance on a package worth $7,000, and the insurance was around $400. You shouldn't have to worry about the Paypal fees, because TB rules state that the seller is responsible for those.

You work it out with the seller in PM's or emails. You say something like "hey man I've got exactly $600 burning a hole in my pocket, will you take that amount for your bass, including full insurance on the package?"

I don't really do alot of online purchasing. Had a very bad experience with it a while back so that's why I'm asking all these questions.

In my limited experience the seller handles shipping. Sometimes it's been great packaging and sometimes not. Once the seller decided insurance was too much and it shipped uninsured. Fortunately it turned out OK.

If the seller pays the shipping company, the insurance contract is with the seller. You have no rights with the shipping company. The seller must handle the claim and you need to get your money back from seller.

Having seen it both ways, it made me want to be a good packer when I sell.

Edit: Overall the experience has been positive. Negotiate the deal up front (shipping, packaging, insurance, exactly what's included) and hope for the best. It's usually fine. Personally I don't think I'll buy another bass that's not in a hard case unless the shipper emails the pics of the packing process and I approve.

You can really find out a bit about a person just through emails.
Send an email if they respond in no time thats a sign they are real for starters. Then ask about the insurance & shipping, some are trying to make cash that way through shipping & insurance. Also try to catch the tone of the email, again you can tell if they are good or bad through emails.Emails usaully have a tone......
Sorry if this is off topic !
