International Berklee inquiry

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys...

At the moment I'm interested in studying at Berklee...I totally understand the audition process and there's not a problem there (awesome they do auditions here in Australia)...

But I don't really understand how the American college system works (seems to be a bit different then here in Australia)...

What financial help is available (if any) for international students? Can you apply specifically for scholarships or do you simply hope to get offered one if your good enough?

Also, to gain a scholarship, what exactly would put one player above the rest??

Any other info that may be relevant as well would be great. It's a bit hard to navigate the berklee site on my phone...

Thanks...

Here's the part of their website :

Scholarship Opportunities—Entering Students
Berklee travels the globe visiting over 40 cities annually seeking those talented musicians who we feel are an excellent match to the college. By participating in a live audition, applicants to the college are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships. Berklee awards scholarship primarily on the basis of a live audition however, we also provide opportunities for applicants to submit original composition material through the Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship.

While the vast majority of awards are partial-tuition awards, a limited number of full-tuition awards are available to exceptionally gifted musicians who participate in a live audition. Each year Berklee will select seven of these top entering musicians to receive the Presidential Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition and housing. Applicants are asked to demonstrate musical merit and potential, exhibited by performance on their principal instrument, including voice.

Berklee World Tour (Live Auditions)
Each year, Berklee travels throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Australia in search of talented instrumentalists and vocalists who are pursuing a college education in music. To complete an online application, visit the Berklee World Tour section of the website.

Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship Program is founded on the principle that all deserving, talented, and financially challenged students should be provided the opportunity to experience the unique benefits of a Berklee education. Presidential Scholars represent the most talented individuals among all young musicians graduating from high school each year. Each will receive full tuition and room and board, which is renewable over four years of study. For further information, visit the Presidential Scholarship section of the website.

Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship for Entering Students
The Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship is designed to provide applicants to the college an opportunity to have their music-writing abilities taken into consideration for scholarship, in addition to their participation in the live audition and interview process. In order to be considered for the Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship, applicants must submit a CD of three original compositions, accompanied by written scores. The maximum award amount through this scholarship is $8,000 per year. For detailed instructions and deadlines for submitting a Berklee Writing and Composition Scholarship application visit the application guidelines.

Endowed Funds
The Endowed Funds are scholarship funds established by named donors to assist talented students. Eligibility for these funds is based on the standard procedures of applying for scholarship consideration as an entering student. Students typically cannot apply for these funds separately. Rather, accepted students are nominated for particular funds based on their participation in the live audition and interview process. See the full listing of Endowed Funds.

Berklee City Music Scholarship
The Berklee City Music College Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship awarded towards full-time study for participants in the City Music Boston and City Music Network programs. Each year awards are made to deserving participants who attend the Five-Week Summer Performance Program as part of the City Music program. For more information, visit the Berklee City Music section of the website.

Jimmy Lyons Scholarship
The Jimmy Lyons Scholarship is named in honor of the Monterey Jazz Festival's late founder, James L. (Jimmy) Lyons, who started the festival in 1958 with a jazz education program at its core. This award is a full-tuition scholarship towards the full-time program for an outstanding student musician from California. Students are eligible to be considered for this award based on their participation in a live audition and interview with Berklee. The student selected for this award must be accepted to Berklee for the upcoming fall semester. For further information, visit the Jimmy Lyons Scholarship section of the website.

Berklee on the Road Clinics
Berklee also hosts several teaching and performance programs across the United States and throughout the world, including in Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Dublin, Italy, and Japan. Students are selected to receive scholarships based upon their performance during these programs, which are held at various times throughout the year. For further information, email scholarships@berklee.edu or call 617 747-8681.

i doubt that financial aid for foreign students would go over too well with the american taxpayer..here foreigners pay full boat, tho'the full fee is less than the actual cost per student......check with your own guv'ment tho' as they will likely have a list of accredited foreign schools/courses and what you would need to qualify for aid....there are probably some scholarships for a limited number of top flight foreign students at us schools but you would have to check with the school
