Just got myself an iRig
Not intending this to be a full review since I haven't tried all the features but,
in my short experience, and with 40$ expectations,
its good.
Tuner, basic metronome, a few eq/setup/''effect'' options, mp3 import feature to play along with a mix volume pot...
Lots of line noise if you want decent volume with headphones on a passive bass, but I haven't experience the same noise while being plugged to a pair of computer speakers. This is kinda cool, I have a few friends playing acoustic guitars, I can just bring the bass, a few cable, this guizmo and plug myself in a pair of preamplified speakers or in an auxiliary input without any problem.
The main package contains : the physical adaptor by itself and you then have to download the free itouch app which contains : 3 band eq, reverb, delay, feedback, noise reducer, gain, volume, presence, and a simulated 412 cab. Of course, the effects aren't boutique quality, but yeah, you can fiddle around.
You have to buy add-ons for the other effects such as wah-wah or chorus and for the other cabs/mic. They're 2,99 a pop or 20$ for the complete package.
At first I was experiencing a delay between the attack and the output but there is an option that reduces the processing time and so I'd say it's now pretty much seamless.
A neat improvement would be able to use the play along feature while being able to adjust the tempo without changing the pitch like on the tascam bass trainer....
Anyone else tried it yet ?

Any one try that yet? My PA is out of my hands until Christmas when I visit home again

Currently there are no plans to port AmpliTube for iPhone on other mobile platforms like Android, BlackBerry, etc…

I use my iRig with Razer Moray earphone and even on high volume it works great (not noise).
I play a lot and I've used it with my Dean demonator its cool. Loved it... |

There are a lot of differences from a bass electronic to the other, but I even with my ''active'' bass, I still hear some hum. Maybe the cables ? I'm using a 20' since I have nothing else nearby. The built-in noise filter gets the job done but I don't think it'll ever get as transparent as my amp (would be a shame for pjb if it did). Having the ipod charging worsen the situation but otherwise, its standable.
I also used the bass-»iRig-»amp setup, the effects don't sound so bad. I'm not really interested to buy a lot of physical pedal/fx (them being pricey and everything). The app let me try a few things without having to buy a lot of gear.
I'm happy with it since, as mentionned in the op, I can bring my bass and hook it up pretty much on anything with speakers... a few friends of mine play different unplugged instruments.
And its definetely good for practice : I've been able to learn a major part Blister in the sun between 11pm and 1am ''yesterday'' without bothering my wife or my neighbors.
My point is that its 40$ cool, not pro-level cool.
oh, and since I've been taking classes for not that long, I can see this being usefull when I go to a shop and want to try an instrument without ending up on the ''this is why music store clerks hate you'' blog

I am not sure of the model amp but it's definitely an Ampeg model. SO, there are bass specific options available if you are looking for it.
