Irish music - St Pat's Day

band got a gig playing a St Pat's day party

lotsa Irish standards (Wild Irish Rose, Danny Boy, Unicorn Song,etc.)

is this pretty much oompah? (root-5?) stuff?

Whooaaa, Danny Boy certainly isnt "oompah" (damn that's a great description)

A lot of Irish songs such as, "Black Velvet Band," are in 3/4 time.

Actually not a lot of oom pah.

jigs (3/4) and reels (4/4) and a lot of sentimental ballads.
