And good music in general. All the freaks are taking over the music industry. Need some ****** good rock n roll.

One of these things is not like the others. Oasis? Is that joke? Entirely forgettable music that history will entirely forget.

The important bands you mentioned actually are quite popular.

"Good Music" is a relative term. I wouldn't put Oasis on par with The Beatles, but it's all a matter of opinion.

i agree with the op, in order to move forward at anything we must look where we came from this goes for music too. lets be real here like em or not if it wasnt for the beatles rock and roll would be very different if it existed at all, we as musicians owe ALOT to paul, john, george and ringo imho

Yeah. No.
Oasis's peak was in the early 90's.
Give it another decade and they'll probably be fashionable and 'vintage'

Many people listen to the beatles and stones. Now maybe not the kinks. I love all three of these bands but not oasis. Can't stand them.

The irony, of course, is that a lot of people considered the Beatles "freaks" in their day. It's all well and good to understand and appreciate your musical heritage, but you're not doing yourself any favors by having a closed mind about what's being made now. The first time Stravinsky's Rite of Spring was performed, the sophisticated audience rioted because it was so radically different from what they were used to. Fast forward a few years and - whaddaya know! - Stravinsky is rightly considered one of the great 20th century composers.

Since I started playing bass, I have been re-listening to all the "old" stuff with a brand "new" ear. I am rediscovering the music that I already loved.

Isn't it sad that some people lump Oasis into the same category as The Beatles and The Kinks?

Oasis put out some bleh stuff at first, some mediocre stuff, some dull stuff, and a few good tunes. But recently they've done some really good stuff. And then with the addition of Andy from Ride and Gem from Heavy Stereo, the combined talent increased dramatically.

most of the really popular bands today are heavily and directly influenced by the bands mentioned in the OP (except Oasis) and most of the kids listening to that stuff also listen to those bands. Heck, Across the Universe was a huge hit with the youth market.

I mean just listen to bands like Vampire Weekend or even the (dare I say) newest Panic at the Disco and you'll hear beatles, stones, and kinks just oozing out of your speakers.

Go to the biggest private torrent tracker (which I shall leave nameless) and look at the ALL TIME TOP 10 SEEDS list and there's the beatles in the #1 spot, and everyone knows the whole private tracker DLing thing is a youth driven phenomenon.

This is just another case of someone ignorantly flaming about a topic they obviously know nothing about (that topic being modern music).

No. What's sad is that people are closed minded enough to not know that there are many types of good music.
