"It's All Over Now": A Rolling Stones tune???

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi.

Oldish thing, but we live in a time-lag world as far as crap is concerned .

It may be in vain, but before You read further, please vote whether the tune is or isn't a RS original to your knowledge.

I was forced to watch something I despise and this caught my attention.

A Rolling Stones tune. Really?

Written by Jagger/Richards? REALLY?

Ok, the tune wasn't specifically credited to the RS writing team, but the real composer/writer wasn't either. Or it escaped my attention.

Granted, it's the most succesful, most well known version of the tune, but still.

Sorry for the rant, it's just that as a cover-musician, I tend to take these kinds of things seriously.

Regards
Sam

I don't know the "facts", but Wikipedia says Bobby and Shirley Womack wrote it, and the Stones management paid royalties to the Womacks for use of the song.

More info on Bobby Womack.I never knew he was the guitarist on "Chain of Fools".

He also wrote the song "Looking For A Love",later covered by J.Geils Band.

I don't know for sure, and I didn't Google it or anything, but knowing how much ripping off of old blues players both the Beatles and Stones (not to mention just about everyone else) did back in the day, I voted "no".

Hi.

I'm happy to see that at least some people can use internet to search for information.

Perhaps I'm just over-reacting but for my whole life I've seen people crediting incorrect groups or individuals for the work they didn't do. That bugs me to no end.

Usually the original composers are as happy as bumble-bees for the recognition and especially the money their creation brings them, but I'd be willing to bet that a mentioning their name would mean quite a bit as well.

Regards
Sam

the stones use of those songs actually went a long way to help some of those guys find a mainstream audience...

Bobby Womack is one of the greats of soul a lot of people don't know about. Lots of great bass-work on his songs I'm A Midnight Mover, Across 110th Street etc.

The British blues revival was a dream come true for those old blues players.

Womack was the same age and even younger than the some of Stones.
