Zappa is the best.

O’Hern, Estrada, Fowler, Thunes et all... Echidna’s Arf, The Purple Lagoon, Approximate, Inca Roads. Makes you want to want to give up and play the recorder ... or practice till your fingers bleed. Either way some of that stuff will leave you slacked jawed and shaking your head with wonder.

Ok, I have said my bit.

I remember hearing Zakk Wylde saying about him, "If you're not a musician you're not even gonna get it." Normally I consider music a universal thing that anybody can understand from the small child to the classically trained pianist. But with Zappa I think there's some truth in what Zakk said!

Ummm... we don't like Vs. type threads in Bassists [BG]

it's music... an ART form. Taste and Preference and all things Subjective.

that said, Zappa ain't a bassist so lets play this game in Misc.

I can think of about 300 or so discs I put in my player before Zappa... great stuff, but not my bag.

'We'? .... Shame, historically these kinds of threads have been some of my favourites... And there is no 'V's' element there at all - its about a band leader, his music and some of the great bass players who have worked with him: O’Hern, Estrada, Fowler, Thunes et all.

my experience is sorta different - zappa has turned more of my friends on to being musicians than any other artist or band except maybe rush.

Frank is one of my Heros, and the musicians that have played with him have always been most inspirational. And I think Scott Thunes is highly under-rated. One of my favorite things to do in my high school days, was to get people to leave my parties, throw a little Frank on and the crowd would clear out.
Of course except for a few diehard friends.
Think about all the tremendous players that have graduated the FZ music school.

Hey man, how about some hint of what the thread is about in the title. That helps sometimes.

Those were the days...yes they were...those were the days,

those were the days...miracles everywhere...where are they now?

...they're gone!

Wrong song but hey...I'm the slime.
