Question It's freezing.

Living in Michigan, it's starting to get really cold as Fall's setting in. The cold temperatures are starting to tighten up, stiffen, and freeze my fingers and tendons. It's really cold in my house, and we're much too poor to keep the heat up. It really hurts to try and play my bass like this, and that's definatley not healthy. I've tried warming up my hands first, but it takes awhile, and the cold settles back in fast. I've thought about fingerless gloves, might that help?

They sell these packs that a driver at my old job used to use because the heat on some of the buses sucked. I never got the name, but I think they sell them at home depot. They stay warm for like 8 or 12 hours

Football players use these at cold games too.

Wear warm socks and a warm hat inside. I wear both when playing in my cold basement in the winter. They tend to keep my whole body warmer, which keeps the extremities warmer in turn.

If you haven't done the inexpensive ways to seal in the heat of your house (plastic window insulation kits, draft stoppers for outside doors), do them. If the heat can't escape, you can run very little and keep the whole place warm.

You’re on line… look up inexpensive ways to seal up the house.

These little oil-filled electric heaters can be gotten pretty cheap, and they’re pretty safe (no flame)...

Put one in a little room and soon it’ll be toasty warm.

to answer your original question, yes, fingerless gloves do help. I practiced for many years in a storage unit with no heat. If it's 10 degrees they're not going to help. If your house is 64 degrees they will make a difference.
