ITunes Ipod Deduping - Freeware?

Sign in to disble this ad
Howdy.

I'm sure other fellow obsessives have this issue - migrating data with dupes. I like having 20,000 songs.. over the years seems as if Apple fake turns this into 25,000 songs.

I'm cool with multiple songs on different records --- it's the creating/duping a record during migration/synch.

Any advice OR applets that fix this issue?

Thank You

Timmy

Wait, your problem is that over time, iTunes has mysteriously copied whole albums, such that you have duplicates of multiple songs??? To my knowledge, I have never had that problem... And that's with syncing to my iPod and even occasionally transferring files to a hard drive and back (like when I did a custom install of Windows 7). I don't really know what could be causing your problem...?

The only problem with that method is it only looks at song titles. Different bands with the same song title pop up. Different versions by the same band pop up. I get 6000 duplicates when I do that. I'm guessing I only have a couple hundred actual duplicates.

I got a lot of dupes when I started converting files to different formats (for example, to MP3 to load on my Tascam Bass Trainer). There is a built-in utility in iTunes that will help you find duplicates. I just turned on the column for file format (it's called something else, sorry I don't have iTunes on this computer). I deleted the duplicates that were MP3 file format. I also had some duplicates from letting iTunes go and look in other places on my hard drive, it found my backup disk and duplicated a bunch of stuff.
