I've Been Asked to Rejoin a Former Band

Former band has concrete plans to record and do a van tour which I would love. It would be a somewhat ready made band that could be a lot of fun and could possibly get signed.

I left the band on good terms but somewhat irked at the treatment of a "fellow bandmate". He and I left simultaneously.

Without airing too much dirty laundry:

The "fellow bandmate" made a perceived "power play" to oust a founding member that; in my witnessing, was somewhat easily frustrated, talented but not driven to get better, and equiment challenged. I've been assured that "easily frustrated" is no longer a headcase (guitards ) due to the "fellow bandmate" no longer being in the band ("fellow bandmate" burned bridges, I didn't) and a lot of the turmoil has disappeared, been making breakthroughs and is becoming more invested and knowledgeable about his gear. I hold no ill will towards easily frustrated.

"Fellow bandmate" and I are actually in a different project that has yet to leave the ground. I concede that "fellow bandmate" may have been an instigator in some of the turmoil of the former band, but at the same time I value the friendship of "fellow bandmate" and I genuinely enjoy the music that we make ("former band has good music, but nothing I would consider my absolute favorite!!).

So I'm torn between possibly wrecking a good friendship and joining a possibly lucrative band.

Take into consideration that I have a wife, that although supportive, would probably rather I stayed here instead of go out on the road for any length of time. Note that I'm not interested in promiscuity.

What would you do?

If touring with your former band is enough to wreck the friendship with "Fellow bandmate", he is so shallow that IMO he is not worth having as a friend. He should understand that you can be their friend TOO.

And "fellow bandmate" has been cool with my friendship towards former band. I filled in on occasion when their current bassist had prior engagements (which he has a lot of and in turn falls through on former band's rehearsals/gigs, hence their desire for a new bassist). It would put me in three bands myself though; two of which aren't doing much gigging. It would also put me in a somewhat awkward position of playing with "fellow bandmate" who harbors some ill will towards "former band" that I may be a part of again. Maybe it won't be awkward, but I have yet to talk to "fellow bandmate" about it; which I'm going to in person in the next couple of minutes.

At the moment I'm inclined to decline though.

What are the odds of another opportunity like this coming up any time soon? I say go for it. You guys could be the next Nickelback!

Yeah,...I'm going to decline them though. I just don't see going on tour with these guys being a whole lot of fun.

After the rehearsal I had with the band that "fellow bandmate" and I founded,....I'm going to stick with that. I think I facilitated some breakthroughs for "fellow bandmate".

It is a business and a paying job to rejoin the former established band. I have lots of musician friends I don't play with but they understand sometimes people have to move onto other projects based on business decisions that have nothing to do with friendship.
