J Bridge Sound Like a P?

Sign in to disble this ad
What's with all this talk about if you play only on the bridge pup of a Jazz you can get it to sound like a P bass? I tried it and it just sounded to harsh and trebly to actually sound like a P, so what's the legitimacy of this statement and why do people keep talking about it?

Uh, maybe better in the pickups forum. Personally -' ain't no way a J bridge sounds like a P unless the P was spayed...

Actually, I think you have your pickups confused. You can get CLOSER to a P-sound if you max the NECK pickup and back off the bridge pickup. Not exactly, but much closer than by favoring the bridge pickup.

You've got it backwards...what a lot of folks say is that if you use only the NECK pickup on a Jazz it sounds like a P.

That's not right either...it doesn't...nothing sounds like a P but a P. Argue all you want but it's as much a natural fact as gravity

But it will at least get you in the ballpark.

I've heard that the neck pup of a Jazz can sound similar to a P-bass. The bridge pup of a Jazz will give you a nasal-ish sound when soloed. Not even close to the sound of a P-bass

God I feel like an idiot... *facepalms*

Sorry, you think after 4 years of playing I would remember the difference between a neck and a bridge pickup!
