So I was just in Sam Ash here in Manhattan to pick up some new cables and then I went over to the Bass section which for those who don't know, also doubles as Hartke's 48th Street Bass Lounge. Larry Hartke is pretty much always there and he's a chatty, friendly guy. My office is about two blocks away so I'm always going over there to noodle with basses and I've gotten to know Larry as well. So Larry was there again today, only this time he had a camera crew with him and was sitting there interviewing Jack Bruce. There was a small crowd gathered around watching and the interview was being filmed for something, although I'm not sure what. I'm sure Larry will post about it on his Facebook page.

Anyway, that was kinda cool.

Good stuff! I shall be popping in there in a day or two and I hope something as cool as that is happening when I get there. I'd like to have a chat with Larry, he sounds like a very nice chap.

Considering that Jack Bruce is my favorite bassist, I find this all very interesting.

Larry is great and will chat it up with you for as long as you are there. He keeps putting Sadowsky's in my hands when I'm in there. I think he thinks he's wearing me down (its not that I have anything against Sadowsky's - I'm just more of a Spector guy) but I'm always willing to thump on one for a bit.

I saw Jack's performance at BB King's last night. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen and he brought the house down.

With this tour he absolutely destroys the myth the public believes that Cream was Eric Clapton.

The entire set list was comprised of material from Cream's studio albums and Jack left them intact enough to be recognizable but then expanded them to cross musical genres from blues and rock to jazz and then return them to what we know from the original recordings.

The show began with Joey Molland doing a half hour of Badfinger hits and Jack used the same drummer and guitarist with the addition of Parliament/Talking Heads session man Bernie Worrell on Hammond B3. All in all the show and everyone in it were outstanding.

To the report of Larry Hartke interviewing Jack Bruce at Sam Ash, Jack used HA7000s, now discontinued, with two stacks of Hartke HX410 and HX115 cabinets. No effects. Not even a tuner in sight.

Thanks for posting this. God only knows how much I wish I could have been there. Very interesting and informative post.

I've got the chance to see Jack soon. It's an outdoor thing in Texas in August. Not quite sure if I want to do that to myself.

Do not miss it. BTW, he's still using his fretless Warwick Thumb with side LED markers and a Samson wireless remote unit to allow him unfettered movement on stage. He's no jumper though. Just the real straight ahead deal.

Larry Hartke just posted this on his facebook page:

Quote:
Jack spent the afternoon yesterday with me at "Hartkes 48th Street Bass Lounge" where I did a video interview with him for over an hour about a whole lot of things. In addition to the usual playing and gear questions I asked Jack about a lot of other more personal things. I asked Jack some questions nobody would ever ask him and he ...answered every one in detail...want to know what Jack likes to eat (yes he likes to cook)...I got it...want to know what Jack drives...I got it...want to know about Jack's horses...I got it...want to know about Ginger...I got it...want to know about Eric...I got it…will Cream ever perform again…I got it…what’s coming up next for Jack…I got it. I've known Jack for 25 years but yesterday I found out many things that I never knew and that weren't covered in his new book or anywhere else that I have seen.. Again this will take a little time in editing and then I'll let you know where you can see it. I promise you it’s a fascinating hour for any Jack Bruce fans. Pictures and videos from B.B. King's and Hartke's 48th Street Bass Lounge" are on the way! I'll be back after this station break...
