Just a note on the 20th anniveresary of the untimely death of one of mine and surely many's most influential players.

Was fortunate to have seen both in Weather Report at the Royal Oak, Theater back in 1977 or 78.

How uncanny is this?

If you have not read the book "Jaco", I highly recommend it.

Wonder what thier first re-united conversation will be like?

"Hi, Joe. I am the greatest bass player in the after-life".

As I mentioned in a different RIP Zawinul thread...both are back together so it won't be a boring place.

What's uncanny is that while Sept 21st is the actual date that Jaco passed, it was on Sept 11th that he left for that Santana concert never to return... and now Joe Z, 20 yrs later (Jaco's brother Rory mentioned this over at the JP website and I thought it was pretty interesting).

Man, am I shocked given the fact that when the reports of Joe's hospitalization were released a few weeks ago they said his condition was not life-threatening.

When a person is 75, things can change pretty quickly.

Not to derail thoughts on Joe, who was truly one of our gifts, but...

I was also in the audience that night - 2nd row back from front balcony right.

I couldn't make sense out of Jaco that night. He seemed angry at the crowd or trying to prove he could play with more distortion than Ted Nugent, or something. I've never been abvle to figure that performance out.
